1) Whether or not you agree with my stance on the word “provider” or not, I thank you for keeping the debate alive for the past two years.

Provider is, at best, sneaky, and at worst, sinister. Physician is the only word that identifies an MD or DO.
2) To those who say this discussion is about ego, I counter that it is about patient safety and empowerment.

Patients should know if their “provider” is not a physician.
3) The Ochoa and Wattenbarger families deserved to know their children were not being seen by physicians in the ER and Urgent Care Center BEFORE they died.
4) To those who say patients die at the hands of physicians, that is true.

But, at least, those patients knew they were harmed by a physician.

Amy Ochoa and Jeremy Wattenbarger did not learn their children were treated by Nurse Practitioners until AFTER their deaths.
5) No matter how one frames it, the word “provider” intentionally conceals the credentials and qualifications of those treating patients in ERs and Urgent Cares all across America.

If the life of your loved one was on the line, wouldn’t you want to know who is treating them?
