I have a lot I need to get off my chest, I think its important, at least, it's important to me. When I first became Alex the Historian in 2016, I recognized immediately that I could finally be my good old fashioned self. When I worked at Disneyland I wasn't allowed to show (1/7)
(2/7) much personality, because I was working, I had to be happy all the time, even when the company would screw me over. And you know, fair enough, I always kept a professional attitude despite what was happening. Because I believed in creating happiness, I still do
(3/7) but once I got on YouTube I felt I could create my own kind of happiness, a happiness that was still grounded in the realities of a media conglomerate. My channel shares history, and fun facts, but also not-so-nice things about Disney
(4/7) I talk about the ugly stuff as well BECAUSE I feel like there are too many YouTubers who pretend Disney can do no wrong. They pretend to love everything. And that misrepresents the truth. As an amateur historian I tell the truth as I see it
(5/7) And when I created a twitter account, I also vowed to be myself. I love Disney, but I also know not to take it too seriously. It's ok to laugh at yourself, that's healthy. What isn't healthy is telling me I can't express my opinions about Disney and crack harmless jokes.
(6/7) I'm a person, not a robot. If you don't like my opinions or jokes about the company, fine, I respect that. But don't tell me how to be Alex the Historian. People try every day to tell me how to run my channel or twitter. Don't get me wrong,
(7/7) I appreciate everyone who enjoys my work, it makes me happy that I can make people happy or nostalgic. But what makes my channel the way it is, is my personality. Without it, my channel is just another video essay channel.
