I have seen some comments here and on Reddit saying how they wish #Vincenzo can be more cruel, and that he has absurdly toned down his Mafia side. But it’s quite clear from the start that it’s a deliberate decision by the writer AND it’s not solely for comedic purposes.
More so that the underlying social commentary the writer wants to emphasise is how South Korean chaebols and government are on par, if not worse, than Italian Mafia. #Vincenzo
1. The writer has consistently highlighted the “When in Rome, do as the Romans do” sentiment from #VincenzoEp1. It is indeed absurd to see a consigliere fell for a cheap trap like this. But such contrast serves as an ironic intro to how he cannot easily play his Mafia cards here.
2. In #VincenzoEp2 CY fleshed out the very fact to him, that he better leave if he's not capable to fight Babel who has “tanks and armored vehicles”, and that it’d be a grueling journey ahead if he proceeds with this war (girl, if only you knew you’d be ~partners~ in no time)
(Unrelated commentary but I agree with those saying they both got each other's attention & are whipped for each other from the start. CY with her no-nonsense attitude brazenly *gave advice* to V was a breath of fresh air for him, esp in contrast to the people he met thus far.)
4. #Vincenzo agreeing to Chayoung’s wish was not him toning down, it was out of respect and trust now that CY is his partner. This is why their partnership is just unbreakable, the foundation is too strong: mutual respect for one another from the get-go & Hong Yu Chan's revenge.
5. This is also why it shouldn't be a surprise when Chayoung let #Vincenzo breaks his promise. The stakes are too high, she knows it's needed, she has full trust in V. Simply a natural and beautiful development of their relationship (or intersection). https://twitter.com/yupinyeop/status/1379640223446011905?s=20
Bottom line: it's a deliberate writing decision to unleash his Mafia side one step at a time. #Vincenzo's storyline revolves around his rediscovery of South Korea, and this includes him learning about Babel's heinous practice among others to make a calculated and cunning move.
