I don’t throw this out lightly, q: into the storm may deserve to end up standing as the greatest full bodied work of journalism from this era. it is a requisite touchstone for future historical reference. the unraveling it accomplishes is a feat that should have been impossible

I followed this shit in realtime & knew the players & the game not as well as some but far better than is probably healthy. I knew the lineage, the events, the connections. but actually *documenting* them *and then weaving them together coherently* is an entirely different animal

and my god the perception and foresight to have been pointing cameras at these people from the outset. beyond remarkable. miraculous even. the reveals are airtight, the new info shocking even to those who were looped in already.

hoback treats the subjects with a degree of humanity completely beyond me, far better than they deserve, and because of his basic humane approach, winds up getting everybody spilling their guts straight into his lens. it’s a real lesson.

fred brennan is a guy I’d have shit on to my deathbed & while I knew he’d claimed to see the error of his ways, I’d have never considered believing it. I’m still not sure I believe it but I would consider it, and simply because hoback filmed & interviewed him as a human

anyway I hope to god people watch this thing because it needs to be the starting point for any conversations about “how did all our already fucked up politics get fucked up on bath salts & grain alcohol”

final thought: the people who really need to watch this are the goofy in-betweener kinda normie MAGA republicans who didn’t go full nuts but still believe trump gives a shit about them. they should be fucking FURIOUS that he WANTED to paint them all as q loons, and THEN DID IT
