My cousin was on life support years ago & the whole city started posting R.I.P. I literally wanted to fight everyone. It meant constantly correcting every well-meaning "sorry for your loss" msg while also seeing lengthy posts frm absolute strangers, looking for likes. This (1/5)
was microscopic in comparison to when a celebrity is known to have experienced a health crisis & rumored to have passed. Irresponsible reporting with incomplete information aiming to game the algorithm are causing not only fans to experience possibly unnecessary heartbreak, (2/5)
but family members & loved ones to be INUNDATED with this exact thing. Ppl who have their fingers crossed for their loved one, who are waiting & praying, now will be called to answer nearly everyone they know instead of having the emotional space & support they likely need. (3/5)
Publications & truthfully, totally regular folk on here, want the reward of a like or RT - whether it be better for their "reach" / bottom line, or the dopamine boost every social media user unknowingly chases. TBH I'm not innocent typing this thread, mad as hell, when I (4/5)
