Some newbie thoughts: I’ve noticed in the handful of games that a lot of new players show up, play more competitively than they have at practice, and then injure themselves. (1/6)
Ofc experienced athletes get injured too, but I feel like a lot of newbies come into the sport w/o a good sense of how to really take care of their bodies when they start playing competitive. I feel like it’s avoidable if we can teach people how to strengthen their bodies (2/6)
One of the biggest things I’ve incorporated into my workout routine is lifting and plyometrics. Throughout quarantine I got into a really awesome workout regimen with the help of @mattsehgal. He developed a really awesome plan that raised my overall level of strength (3/6)
But also targeted specific weaknesses of mine. The workouts have shifted since I’m back in Boston and no longer have weights, but Matt has helped me work on a program that I can do basically anywhere w or w/o weights. (4/6)
returning to school also made me realize the amount of time it takes to keep up injury prevention work. I think college students are too pressed for time in general. And then they bring 100% to a game w/o the preventative work and run a higher risk of injury (5/6)
Ideally I’d like to see coaches or experienced players teach other players proper lifting and plyometrics programs that build a solid base and strengthen common high impact movements in the game. And I also just want more time to do stuff. (6/6)
