Article says "Polls broadly indicate socialist Andres Arauz, a protege of former President Rafael Correa, with a lead over rival Guillermo Lasso..."

So who did the big private/public media favor during the campaign - and the LAST 4 YEARS @reuters ?

Didn't notice?
Moreno is deeply unpopular in @ecuador, with approval in single digits, but Reuters never tells us tha in this article. It is actually common for Reuters to claim Maduro is unpopular in #Venezuela.
"Arauz, 36, won the first electoral round with the 32.7% of the vote thanks to promises to reverse austerity measures and deliver $1,000 to a million poor families - a promise he has downplayed during the runoff vote."

"downplayed"? What the hell is this bullshit?
I suppose they could weaselly claim "downplayed" means he hasn't talked about it as much. Could be some truth in that as Arauz, thanks to media bias, has had to spend time during 2nd round campaign responding to lies & wild distortions about his unpaid leave from the central bank
Moreno is so unpopular, that Arauz's unpaid leave (and eventual dismissal in 2020 with severance pay) was used by Lasso supporters to try to link Arauz to Moreno - to claim Arauz was part of Moreno's government. And thanks to media bias that tactic had a brief impact.
The huge problem for Lasso (which his attacks on Arauz cannot overcome) is that Moreno has essentially co-governed with Lasso these past 4 years. To put an exclamation pt on it, one of Moreno's former VP's just made frantic plea for people to vote for Lasso
"Low oil prices and the coronavirus pandemic have left a third of the population in poverty and some 500,000 workers without stable employment."

Notice how Moreno (not under crippling US sanctions) is absolved by @Reuters of all responsibility for increased poverty?
