"Enough prayers. Time for some action." - @JoeBiden

Today was a huge day in the long fight against gun violence. So I wanted to take a moment to share how proud I am of all who made it possible — esp. how much proud I am of my husband, @PeterMAmbler. (1/7) https://twitter.com/i/broadcasts/1PlJQPrjwnzGE?t=5s
As some of you know, my husband, @PeterMAmbler, was working for Congressman @GabbyGiffords when she was shot & injured at at a “Congress at Your Corner” event outside a supermarket in Tucson, AZ.

Six were killed—including one of Peter’s coworkers, a judge, and a 9-yo girl. (2/7)
And, as is the case w/every senseless shooting in America, the lives of all those affected were forever changed.

Peter joined @GabbyGiffords & @CaptMarkKelly in founding @GiffordsCourage to advance gun safety measures—& lead the efforts to defeat the NRA’s dangerous agenda.(3/7)
Their work fighting for gun safety legislation would eventually bring Peter to the Office of then-VP @JoeBiden, who was leading the Obama-Biden administration’s efforts to reduce gun violence. Which is where, one fateful day, we met working on background checks legislation. (4/7)
And since then, I’ve watched in deep admiration as Peter, Gabby, and millions of grassroots activists have risen up and demanded meaningful change — winning elections, court battles, & passing hundreds of gun safety measures in states across the country. (5/7)
And as a member of the State Assembly, I was able to join him in the fight, carrying #AB1603 in 2019. That bill codified into law the CA Gun Violence Intervention & Prevention Program (CalVIP)—which funds community-based organizations working to break the cycle of violence. (6/7)
Which beings us to today, which is a BFD— a big step in the right direction. To finally have the federal gov’t *act* on gun violence.

That’s why I wanted to take a moment to share how proud I am of Peter, Gabby, & all of you in this fight.

I’m so energized to continue our work. https://twitter.com/petermambler/status/1380194461137965057
