All that Yoongi wants whenever he’s having a bad day is to have Seokjin hold him close and reassure him that everything will be alright. But it gets difficult when they're thousands of miles apart.
If you were to ask Yoongi’s friends to describe him in three words, all of them would include “patient” in their list. They could add other compliments or witty adjectives they can think of, but they will, inevitably, insert that little word in.
For the most part, Yoongi agrees. Sure, he’d get frustrated and annoyed every now and then. He’s only human, after all. But the situation (or the person) would have to be unbelievably unbearable for Yoongi to react negatively — and even that would still be subdued in comparison.
But no matter how patient he is, something — or in this case, someone — was bound to pull on his last string.
Yoongi was unfortunate enough to not only have very little sleep the night before, he also dropped his credit card in the sewer, spilled coffee on his white dress shirt, arrived late at their meeting, and busted his tires on his way home.
Saying that he was exhausted was an understatement. Yoongi wanted to collapse, to just bury himself under his comforter and temporarily forget about the horrible fact that he’s a human being who exists and has responsibilities.
But all of that was in vain because as soon as he steps into his apartment, Yoongi hears a sound coming from his room. On most days, Yoongi would feel the excitement immediately pump through his veins the second he hears that all too familiar sound.
Today, however, is not one of those days.

“What,” he blurts out as soon as he sits down on his swivel chair.

“Someone’s grumpy today,” he hears Seokjin say in his usual teasing voice.

Yoongi rolls his eyes and crosses his arms, “I’m not grumpy.”
“Yes, you are,” Seokjin insists, “you just rolled your eyes at me.”

“No, I didn’t.”

“Yes, you did.”

“Are you going to play this stupid game with me all night? Because if you are then I’ll just end this call—“
“Woah, okay hold up,” Seokjin starts waving his hands frantically, “I didn’t call you to pick a fight.”

Yoongi looks away from his laptop screen. He knows that he shouldn’t take his frustrations out on his boyfriend.
It’s not like Seokjin contributed to all the shits that happened to him today. But he’s tired and sleepy and incredibly frustrated, so instead of apologizing to his boyfriend or taking a breather to calm himself, Yoongi turns his swivel chair away from his webcam.
“Yoongi, what’s wrong? Come on baby, talk to me,” Seokjin says after a few seconds.

The silence between them continues to stretch. Yoongi thought Seokjin hung up on him at one point because the older was too quiet, so he instantly turns around and faces his laptop screen.
To his surprise, Seokjin was still there, fist on his cheek while he looks intently at his monitor.

“Why are you still here?” Yoongi asks, pulling on his earlobe.
“I’m not leaving until you tell me what caused you to be so upset to the point where you refuse to at least act civil towards me,” Seokjin explains as he leans back on his chair. “You can tell me anything, ‘Gi. I’ll listen. I always do.”
Yoongi’s hands curl into loose fists, “that’s my problem, hyung. You’re always there to listen to my rants, to how my day went, to what my current thoughts are. You’re always there to make me laugh and smile and feel loved...
“...But you’re just there, in my fucking laptop screen. I don’t have your fingers to play with while I recall my dream. I don’t have your arms to hold me while I cry about how bad my day went. I don’t have your lips to kiss me before I go to work....
“... I don’t have you here to ground me when I feel like floating away. I don’t— you’re not here to physically reassure me that everything will be okay again when I need it. You’re not... here, Jinnie. And that’s... that’s what’s wrong.”
Seokjin’s mouth hangs open while Yoongi heaves as he catches his breath and tries his best not to cry. Logically, Yoongi knows that them being miles apart isn’t Seokjin’s fault. In fact, if anyone should be blamed, Yoongi knows that it should be him.
He’s the one who pushed Seokjin to sign the contract for that movie in America, after all. Even when Seokjin told him the downsides — staying there for a whole year and not being able to talk to him that regularly — Yoongi still encouraged Seokjin venture out to reach his dreams.
And Yoongi knows this. He’s ingrained this fact in his mind since the whole long distance thing started. But it was hard to think rationally when his mind is clouded by all the inconveniences from the entire day and the frustrations of not having his favourite person by his side.
“I hate this, Seokjin. I hate this long distance bullshit. I hate how you’re not the first thing I see when I wake up. I hate how you’re not the one I’m hugging until I fall asleep. I hate missing you like this.”
“But I’m not gone for you to miss, Yoongi-yah,” Seokjin says softly, almost like a whisper.

Yoongi’s eyes start to water, “you’re not here either to physically prove that to me. It’s just... I just want you back here with me, Jinnie.”
Seokjin looks down and rubs the back of his neck, “I’m sorry you have to go through this on your own, baby.”

“Me too,” Yoongi chokes out before he feels tears roll down his face. “I miss you.”
“I miss you too, Yoongichi,” Seokjin confesses, scooting closer towards the webcam.
“I miss booping your nose every morning. I miss watching movies with you and then watching you sleep on me. I miss going out with you. I miss tracing my fingers on your back. I miss massaging you after a long day. I miss going fishing with you. I think I miss that the most.”
Yoongi sniffs a little before chuckling, “you can’t even catch a fish even if your life depended on it.”

“It’s not like you’re better than me, you brat. You wouldn’t even know how to cast properly if I didn’t teach you.”
“What’s the point of learning it on my own? I only go fishing because you love it...” Yoongi trails off as heat starts spreading on his cheeks. “And I love you,” he continues, voice almost inaudible if it wasn’t for the mic hanging just below his lips.
Seokjin smiles toothily at him, “I love you too, ‘Gi. Can you stretch your arms wide for me?”

“What for?”

“Just do it.”

Yoongi pouts but still obliges, wiping his nose and eyes before stretching his arms out as far as he can. “Now what?”
“That’s how much I love you, Yoongi-yah!” the older exclaims, grinning the same way he always does whenever he catches his boyfriend off guard.

Yoongi instantly retracts his arms and covers his face behind his palms, “ugh, you’re the worst! I can’t believe I fell for that!”
Seokjin laughs squeakily at him, “but it got you to smile, didn’t it?”

“Yeah,” Yoongi says, giggling as he shyly hides his hands under his thighs. “I’m sorry for lashing out on you, hyungie.”
“It’s fine, ‘Gi. No harm done. I’m just glad you were able to get that out of your chest.”

Yoongi juts his lower lip and looks at the webcam with knitted brows, “why are you always so kind to me when I don’t deserve it?”

Seokjin tilts his head, “but you do.”

“I really don’t.”
“Baby, you were having a bad day. Everyone gets irrational when everything gets too much. I understand, don’t worry.”

“You gotta stop condoning me, Jinnie. Especially when we both know that I did something wrong.”
“I don’t see what’s wrong with you letting your feelings out, baby,” Seokjin reassures him. “And I would honestly prefer you lashing out on me rather than see you bottle it up.”

Yoongi sighs heavily and looks down, “I hate long distance.”
“I know, baby. I’m really sorry I can’t be beside you right now to hold you.”

“Don’t be sorry, hyungie. You have nothing to apologize for. I just... I really miss you.”

Seokjin pouts at him, “just a few months left, Yoongi-yah. You can wait until then, right?”
“That’s still so far away. I don’t think I’ll last another week without you, Jinnie,” Yoongi whines, stomping his feet loudly so his boyfriend can hear. “I wish plane tickets weren’t so damn expensive so I can fly to you this second.”
Seokjin coos at him, “we’ll see each other real soon, okay baby? I promise. Just hold on a little longer for me.”

Yoongi purses his lips and nods. He looks at Seokjin with glassy eyes as he stifles a yawn, “I miss you, Seokjinnie.”
“I miss you too, Yoongichi. But I’m afraid I have to cut our conversation now. You need to go to bed.”

“But I wanna talk to you more.”

“It’s almost three in the morning there, you silly goose. Go to sleep,” Seokjin insists.

“Hyungie—“

“No, Yoongi,” Seokjin says sternly.
“You still have work tomorrow and I don’t want you to pull an all-nighter just to talk to me.”

Yoongi sticks his tongue out, “you’re no fun.”

“Just go to sleep, you big baby. I’ll call you again soon, I promise.”

“Why can’t you call me tomorrow after work?”
Seokjin blinks at him a few times before responding, “we have to reshoot a couple scenes for the next few days and I might not have access to my phone during those times.”

Yoongi slumps on his swivel chair and groans loudly, “I hate this so much.”
“I’m really sorry baby. I promise I’ll call you as soon as I can, okay? Can you promise me that you’ll still send me updates?”

“You know I would,” Yoongi says as he fiddles with his fingers. “I don’t want this call to end.”
Seokjin smiles reassuringly at him, “I’ll send you a lot of selcas before I get busy with shooting. How does that sound?”

“I don’t know...”

“I’ll wear that stupid shirt with your face on.”

“Okay,” Yoongi blurts out immediately, flashing his gummy smile at his boyfriend.
“I can’t believe you just tricked me into wearing that shirt!” Seokjin exclaims, laughing. “Ugh, I hate you.”

“No, you don’t,” Yoongi chuckles before finally letting go of the yawn he’s been trying to suppress since earlier. “Take care okay? And text me when you can.”
Seokjin nods, “I will, baby. You take good care of yourself too. Try not to pull an all-nighter for work, alright?” The older makes a kissy face as he leans closer to the webcam. “I love you, Yoongi-yah.”

“I love you too, Jinnie. I miss you.”
The older winks at him before ending their call, leaving Yoongi with a blank screen and an empty apartment. With a sigh, Yoongi heads to the bathroom and cleans up as fast as he can.

‘Why can’t the days go faster?’ he thought before finally surrendering himself to sleep.

Despite his boyfriend’s plea, Yoongi still pulls multiple all-nighters in a row during the next few days.
It’s not like he’s deliberately ignoring Seokjin’s request, it’s just hard for him to sleep in their shared bed when the right side of it remains made and untouched and Seokjin-less.
The weekend was approaching anyway, and Yoongi would happily spend that time catching up on sleep rather than staying awake and being reminded of the dreadful fact that he was all alone in their apartment.
Which is exactly what Yoongi does as soon as he arrived home on Friday at around 2 in the morning after another gruesomely busy day at work.
He quickly makes himself a sandwich to munch on before washing up and getting ready for bed. Yoongi checks his messages one last time to see if he missed any texts or calls from his boyfriend before finally drifting to sleep.
Except his sleep was cut short because just as he was about to turn to Seokjin’s side of the bed, Yoongi finds his back flushed against something wide and solid and beating. Alarmed at the intrusion, Yoongi quickly grabs his pillow and smashes it on the object next to him.
“Wha— ah! Yoon— ouch, cut it out— aw! Min Yoongi!”

The pillow hovers midair as Yoongi’s eyes grow wide at the familiar voice, “Seok...Seokjinnie? I— what the hell?”

Seokjin sits up slowly, nursing his arm, “that’s a fun way to greet your boyfriend. I thought you missed me?”
“I mean yeah but...” Yoongi pauses momentarily before he starts chuckling hysterically, “oh my god, I can’t believe how real this dream is. Fuck, this is what I get for not listening to Jinnie.”
“What’s that supposed to mea— did you pull an all-nighter like I specifically told you not to?!” Seokjin’s apparition asks him with a raised brow.
“Multiple ones actually,” Yoongi admits as he puts down the pillow. “It was hard to sleep without you beside me. And my best works are always made in the middle of the night.”

Seokjin slaps his arm, “yah! How many times do I have to tell you that not sleeping is bad for you!”
“Aw! Fuck hyung, that hurts—“ Yoongi’s rant gets abruptly cut by a loud gasp, “oh my god, you’re real!”

“Of course, I’m real! What did you think I was? An apparition?”

“Well, yeah! You still got four months to shoot, didn’t you?”
“I promised you that we’ll see each other soon, didn’t I?” Seokjin asks with a wink.

Yoongi crosses his arms and scrunches his nose to feign annoyance, “stop being such a cheeseball, hyungie. Did you ditch work just to see me?”
Seokjin giggles and pulls him closer, “we finished early, Yoongi-yah. The last time we video called was our last day of shooting.”
“Why didn’t you tell me!” Yoongi shifts himself on top of Seokjin’s lap as he continues to whine. “And why would you surprise me while I’m asleep? I could’ve seriously hurt you!”
“Baby, you can’t hurt me even if you tried. Besides,” Seokjin holds his waist and nuzzles his nose on Yoongi’s. “I tried waking you up as soon as I got here but you wouldn’t budge. That’s not my fault now, is it?”
“Sleeping without you is hard, okay?” Yoongi admits shyly as he hooks his arms around Seokjin’s neck. “I missed you.”

Seokjin smiles sweetly at him before kissing the tip of his nose, “I missed having you in my arms like this. I can’t believe I lasted that long without you.”
“Now you can start and end your day again by cuddling me,” Yoongi says as he places his forehead on top of Seokjin’s.

“And maybe we can squeeze in a couple in between.”

“I have work.”

“Then I’ll go with you.”

“You have work too!”
Seokjin laughs at him as he pulls Yoongi’s body closer to his. “I told them I needed a break after all that. Being away from my favourite person in the world is no joke, you know?”
“I know,” Yoongi looks at the older with crescent eyes and grins widely. “Welcome home, Jinnie,” Yoongi whispers happily before finally closing their distance and latching his lips on Seokjin’s.
