Man ;-;, this moment hurts to reread since Ymir opening her eyes was symbolic of no longer being a slave to Fritz's will, seeing her backstory, the effect of Eren's words sympathising with her pain and the emotional climax juxtaposed with the rumbling's activation
but then 139 🦧
Also the parallels between the duo who simply had an innocent dream of freedom in a cruel world which are completely gone out of the window
The amount of enduring the suffering Ymir and Eren have gone through, probably unparalleled for a conclusion that forgot what the entire purpose was for
I love AoT for everything it is, but sometimes it's really hard to accept a message which doesn't resemble what I've seen
The 9 titans being representations of Ymir's soul and the name of the series symbolising the core essence of freedom is such a powerful bold statement
And who better to embody this message than Eren himself who before and after has fought for the same cause after inheriting it
The entire titan lineage has lead up to his legacy with the ability to know the future all led up to himself
Just really boggles my mind how this entire set up, gets convoluted in the finale
Even Eren finding himself the exact place he asked this question 4 years ago, a question to himself that he longed the answers for seems like a non existent priority for him
Exploring themes of love is no way a theme AoT hasn't explored before, even Kruger said this was the way to prevent the mistakes of the past
Simply how it's almost forgotten in the series final message to the viewer
The speciality that comes along with the freedom of being born that Eren talked himself as being what made all his loved ones so special, everyone in fact
Was such an essential, well written and developed message that empowers the viewer
Even as Eren's actions to achieve this freedom become twisted, corrupted and don't even resemble the Eren that wouldn't stand for indiscriminate murder of millions of innocents
It's still a consistent faithful route that Isayama has built Eren on
Isayama also seems to have altered the significance of Eren's memories, 131 conveyed them as frequent reminders of what he has to do and who he is, a truth he can't escape from
Whereas 139 seems to overcomplicate the entire concept for payoff that doesn't even get focus
In the end of the story, the route I envisioned never had to be totally one side of the spectrum
Simply consistent is all I wished for to Eren since the beginning which leaves this unsatisfactory feeling
But regardless thank you Isayama for the entirety of this story
