I'm making this thread at the request of many disputing analysis of the U.S Navy's advantage in tonnage where it matters over China's advantage in numbers where it matters little . Forty ships is what separates both navies. So let's delve right into it.
China has two aircaft carriers in service. The Liaoning commisoned in 2012 and Shandong commisoned in 2019. Both Liaoning and Shangdong are based on the Soviet designed Kuznetsov class carried of the 1980s.
Shandong or Type 002 is a conventionally powered ski jump carrier and has a displacement (tonnage) of 70,000 tons. China's carrier fleet have a combined tonnage of 110,000 tons. The Liaoning can carry 40 aircafts and Shandong 44 aircraft.
China's current naval fighter is the J-15 Flying Shark. Which is vastly inferior to its American counterpart, the F-18 Hornet.
China's carriers are slower and can operate at sea for only six days before needing to refuel. SIX DAYS.

Chins has less than a decade of experience with carrier operations.
The United States operates 11 Nimitz-class "supercarriers," aircraft carriers that dwarf all other flat-tops worldwide both in size and capability. Each of these Nimitz carriers weigh 101,600 tons. Given the US Navy Nimitz Class 11 flattopes a combined 1,1 million in tonnage.
Each Nimitz typically carries an air wing of 80 or 100 aircraft consisting of 60 F/A-18 Hornets, 5 E/A-18G Growler electronic warfare aircraft, 4 E-2D Hawkeye airborne early warning and control aircraft, 2 C-2 Greyhound transport aircraft, and 6 Seahawk helicopters.
ENTER the US Navy's four Ford Class Super carriers: USS Gerald Ford, USS John F Kennedy, USS Enterprise and USS Dorris Miller.
Two of these carriers have been inducted into the Navy, With USS Gerald Ford commisoned in 2017, and USS John F Kennedy launched in 2019, with USS Enterprise and USS Miller still under construction.
These new class of carriers are a generation ahead of the Nimitz class, the very same Nimitz class of carriers that is a generation ahead of any other carrier in the world.
USS Ford and Kennedy are armed with the Raytheon evolved Sea Sparrow missile, which defends against high speed, highly manoeuvrable anti ship missiles. The close in weapon system is the rolling airframe missiles.
The carrier carrys 100 aircraft, including the F-35 Stealth Fighter, F-18 Hornets and unmanned aerial vehicles. Each of these carriers are 100,000 ton. Making for a combined 200,000 in tonnage. So now we are looking at 12 Super carriers.
ENTER the U.S Marines. No kidding. They have amphibious assault ships. I classify them as carriers because they outclass China's two aircaft carriers.
They carry and fly more advanced aircrafts than China's air force. Marines are the only branch of the U.S military that operates VSTOL aircafts.
The Air wing consisted of AV-8B Harriers II "jump jets". They have now been replaced with F-35B stealth fighters. this is the U.S Marines. U.S Marines alone fields far more stealth aircaft than the Chinese and Russian Air Force combined several times over.
The Marines arquired 420 F-35s, 353 F-35Bs and 67 F35Cs. That's 840 F-35 Stealth fighters. By contrast the Russian Air Force has less than 12 PAKFA 5th Gen fighters
Besides projecting air power the core function of the WASP is to help U.S Marines storm beaches.
The Wasp class is capable of transporting almost the full strength of a United States Marine Corps Marine Expeditionary Unit, and landing them in hostile territory via landing craft or helicopters as well as providing air support via F-35B stealth fighters.
The Marines operate a total of eight of these large deck multi-purpose amphibious assault ships and all eight are in active service.
So in totally we are looking at the U.S military operating 20 aircraft carriers it can deploy at any time. That's more than the rest of the world s navies combined. The U.S Navy is the only navy that has a separate fleet of carriers for each of the world's seven oceans.
Going by numbers alone, while overwelming is not even the major advantage the U.S Navy has. EXPERIENCE is where America has the greatest advantage.
As of this writing 2021 China is now just begining to learn the rudiments of carrier operations and carrying out sea trials.
America by contrast has had more than 75 years of hard earned experience from multiple wars across numerous continents. You cannot negate a 75 year head start with money. Combat experience is something that cannot be purchase or tweaked.
Think about it. The Liaoning can only endure six days at sea before they have to return to port to refuel. By contrast U.S nuclear powered carriers can remain at sea for years if necessary, limited only by their supply of food and human endurance. In 2021 China's two carriers
Liaoning and Shangdon cannot operate far into the high seas yet. America by contrast in 1945 was decimating the Japanese carrier fleet in the battle of Midway, in what is regarded as the greatest carrier battle in history.
America's advantage is so overwhelming it borders on ridiculous. 20 aircaft carriers, 12 of them super carriers to China's two. Technological advantage. A century of experience. China's navy will be picked apart the United States in open seas.
