Happy to see that the interview with Matt and Dana is having an overwhelming positive response! I’ve seen a couple questions asking me how I was able to arrange this. I won’t go into specifics, but I can offer advice for aspiring content creators.
1. Put your work out there
Start making content and putting it on YouTube. You gotta start somewhere and start building your channel.

2. Pick something you genuinely are passionate about
I love making videos, but damn it can be hell to find the motivation sometimes. Picking something you are passionate about will make creating videos and content a lot easier.

3. If you’re looking at investing money, I would prioritize getting a good mic
This is a personal preference, but I think having better audio is more important than fancy editing and visuals. You can have the best editing, but if your audio is bad, viewers won’t stick around.

4. THUMBNAILS!
Make good thumbnails! Too often I see bland thumbnails on videos. Remember, while you want to keep your subs watching, you also want to draw new viewers in to your channel. The first thing that will do that will be a thumbnail and title.

4. THUMBNAILS! (Continued)
Think about the videos you click on and watch and what thumbnails they have. I’d also suggest getting a small drawing tablet if you wanna take your thumbnails to the next level. Having that kinda control instead of a mouse makes a big difference.

5. Social media
Social media has its pros and cons. Especially with the past year, there have been a lot of cons. But, it’s a great way to promote your vids and make connections with other creators. Use hashtags, retweet, etc, get your channel out there.

6. Connections
These are super important for any field, but especially creative fields! Making connections mean that you’ll get the opportunity to collab with others and meet new people. This can lead to some incredible opportunities for you!

7. Interviews
Honestly, I am probably not the best person to ask for this topic since Matt and Dana were my first time interviewing anyone. But, I will say it was the connections that I had that led to me to being able to interview both of them.

I also had the benefit of Matt and Dana both being familiar with my channel prior to me interviewing them. I don’t want to speak for either of them, but I think that helped me a lot.

7. Interviews (Continued)
Going back to my first point, put your stuff out there. If people can look up your stuff and get an idea of what your channel has to offer, that will probably make people more inclined to agree to an interview.

As simple as this may sound, it doesn’t hurt to just ask. I know it sounds intimidating, but asking can be the most direct and efficient method. Don’t be annoying and spam people though, be friendly and professional. The worst you can get is a “no”.

8. Closing Thoughts
There’s honestly a lot more I could say, but Twitter’s character count is a bit limiting. Hopefully this helps someone of you out though. This advice is from my personal experience, so don’t take it as “this is the only way to do it”.

If you have other questions I’ll try and answer those! But ultimately, put videos out there, pick something you love, and make connections! I’m still learning and growing as a creator, but I am incredibly thankful for my journey so far!
