I unironically believe that the only people who should be allowed to write, read, & talk about Christian mystics are orthodox Christians themselves.
Too many gender studies/critical theory folk get their hands on Catherine of Siena/Margery Kempe/Teresa of Avila & then try to turn them into "queer", "womanist", & "sexually liberated" (read: promiscuous) figures, when in reality, they were faithful, right-believing Catholics.
I cringe every time I see these liberal academics say "Well ACKSHUALLY-" every time someone mentions the fact that the majority of Christian mystics actually believed, held, and lived Church teaching. Stop trying to turn Julian of Norwich into some proto-Foucaultian pervert.
If scrolling through #medievaltwitter taught me anything, it's that a large number of academics have actual brain worms and should live out their medieval interests in a monastery, preferably praying, doing penance, and remaining silent.
If I worked for @PAULISTPRESS, I would simply ask every customer who purchased any of Classics of Western Spirituality to tell me why they want it.

"Oh, I'm thinking of reading Marguerite Porete & Mechthild of Magdeburg through the lens of transgender theory"

"Sorry sold out"
