So everyone who’s been following my account for the last 3 days knows that I’ve been watching Harley Quinn on HBO, and now that I finished season 2 I’m ready to give my thoughts on it (I know they announced a third season but the first two were meant to stand on their own):
So in general, I loved it! I was never really into adult cartoons but this one really hit me for some reason, all tho I don’t like numbered ratings, I think the 8.5 ⭐️ on IMDB is a pretty spot on in my opinion, I would recommend it to anyone who considers themselves DC fan.
As I mentioned in another tweet, my favorite character has to be Ivy, I can’t really explain why, the character is both written and performed so well and her personality feels strangely similar to mine, she feels like a D&D character I would play, an exaggerated version of myself
And I can’t really explain it, it’s a connection I’ve never felt with a cartoon character before.
I also love how the show played with my expectations, it’s clear that the writers knew that everyone expected (and wanted) Harley and Ivy to end up together during the course of the show so the fact they kept delaying it and making us think it’s not gonna happen is great
because it makes the viewer want it to happen even more, and then we get to kiteman, I love you kiteman, but you never had a chance. I think kiteman is hilarious, and I think the romance between him and Ivy was written incredibly well and felt so real even if everyone knew it
wasn’t going to last, I am actually surprised at how long they managed to keep it going with it becoming boring.
I guess I should talk about the main character, as with most things on the show Harley is both written and played brilliantly, she is relatable, realistic and funny her struggle with the effects of her abusive relationship with Joker during season 1 is genuinely very disturbing.
Other notes: the take on joker is different but I like it, there was an awful lot of Jewish jokes in the show and as someone who’s ethnically Jewish I found them funny, I really like how some of the character designs took a more unique approach with Gordon and clayface.
Robin makes a few appearances in show (he’s also great) but he just disappears at some point and we never hear about him again which is odd (did I miss something?)
KING SHARK IS THE BEST.
KING SHARK IS THE BEST.
ALL VERSIONS OF KING SHARK ARE THE BEST.
They gave Bane the Tom Hardy voice, which is a nice touch.
And now I have to be a complaining dick: season 1 is better then season 2, both are great but I did find season one to have such a strong emotional core which the majority of season 2 kinda lacks in my opinion until the Ivy x Harley romance starts to heat up.
Statistics:
🗒 I’ve watched (on average) 8.6 episodes a day (no I don’t have that amount of free time)
😢I cried once (S1E12, I’m not spoiling why, and I think the fact that I watched the episode at 3:30 AM has something to do with it because I don’t usually cry watching stuff)
In conclusion: great show, go watch it if you can, the character of Poison Ivy speaks to me on a very personal level which I still can’t explain.
