9 years ago today I watched Star Wars for the first time - April 8th, 2012.
Get ready for a sappy, personal Star Wars post folks

My family was driving home from our spring break trip. I was bored and there was nothing else to do. I was scrolling through iFunny (oh my god
) and this photo popped up and after a few months of saying 'I should watch Star Wars' it was the straw that broke the camel's back.

(it was a long time coming - there were lots of signs pointing towards me needing to watch SW)
(I will also admit to reading the Wikipedia synopsis before watching - up until the Death Star Battle because at that point I was interested and didn't want to know how it ended)

Armed only with my Samsung Galaxy 1 and spotty cell service, I managed to find a bootleg version of A New Hope on YouTube in 20 minute segments.
It took me 4 hours to watch because it would take so long for the clips to load, but I was still absolutely hooked

I immediately was on Wookieepedia researching all the characters and their pasts, I was on YouTube watching clip compilations: I couldn't get enough. The next day I found a mirrored version of the Empire Strikes Back on YouTube and watched that after school.
I was even more hooked than before - but I couldn't find a version of Return of the Jedi so I bought the Han Solo trilogy to fuel my need for Star Wars
My study hall teacher eventually was the one to show me the Tatooine part of RotJ. It was magic watching it on a smart board.

- and of course I eventually found the Special Edition VHS's my parents had, stashed away in the house somewhere. I finally got to see the end of the Original Trilogy and eventually managed to catch all the Prequel Trilogy movies on TV over that summer and fall.
I don't have a good way to wrap this thread up because there's really no end point to this story. I could keep going up to present day talking about the Sequel Trilogy being announced and how the ST effected me while growing from a young teen to an adult -
But I think most people understand what I mean when I say Star Wars just is this burning obsession that brings me so much joy and I can't imagine my life without it.
I know it's not as long as some people - but here's to the next 3,287 days - 9 years - and many more.
