Some tips I got from agents/authors that I found helpful:

- Think of a book contract like a job, set deadlines for yourself and sit down to work

- Identify your most realistic productive times of the day/week

- Don’t overly self-edit as you write drafts.
- If you need to work on your book in the evenings but you’re tired from a day job, focus on less onerous tasks like organizing research and save blocks of writing for the weekend

- Get regular exercise and eat well!

- Hide your phone in another room, delete social apps
- Turn wifi off and keep a notebook on your desk to jot down things to look up online once you’re done your writing session.

- Zoom writing dates with others are helpful for accountability

- Difficult during pandemic but try to work in different spots for change of scenery
- I didn’t announce I was working on a book until I was done because I knew I’d have spent too much time tweet-crying about the process if I had haha.

- Set mini-rewards for yourself for completing each chapter or even a tough section.

- Don’t compare your speed with others.
- Build a community; trade drafts with authors to give each other feedback

- Set up an ergonomic writing station! Messing up your body isn’t worth it.

- Make time to read because it’s v helpful as inspiration for your own work

- Take breaks, say no to requests on your time.
