A lot of people always talk about how Sakura and Medusa have one of the best master/servant relationships in Fate but rarely to they elaborate on why. The reason is because both of there stories beautifully parallel one another in the same way Shirou and Saber do.

Similar to Sakura Medusa was the youngest sibling but was viewed as an outcast do to her irregular appearance. In Greek Myth Medusa was also a victim of sexual assault at the hands of Poseidon in the temple of Athena and because of that was cursed by her into becoming a monster.

The only source of solace Medusa had was that in her exile she was with her beloved older sisters Euryale and Stheno. As Medusa continued to transform however even her relationship with sisters could not be salvaged. She more than anyone else understood Sakura’s feelings.

Like Sakura she was viewed as as outcast and monster by everyone including her own family. Those negative feelings caused her to become ever more monstrous till she transformed into the imposing Gorgon which lived only to take vengeance on anyone who wronged her.

Her story beautifully parallels Sakura’s story in Heaven’s Feel and is why Medusa is so protective of her. She knows at heart Sakura doesn’t want to commit the actions that she does but knows the path she’s going down will be one of no return. Put simply she wants Sakura to

Achieve happiness even at the cost of her life. She genuinely cares about Sakura to the point it goes past a simple Master/Servant relationship to one where they can almost be seen as sisters. It’s a fantastic dynamic that they have and deserves more appreciation.
