Look, I get all the ways our response to HIV has been _fucked up_, AND ALSO HIV is a radically different disease from COVID 19, it's a _much_ more difficult disease in a lot of ways, and, as the expression goes, "the immune system is where intuition goes to die."
We're _way_ outside of my own area of specialization here, but I do listen to HIV researchers when they talk about how _bleeding difficult_ this disease is and how hard it is to develop and test vaccines against it.
There are criticisms to be made from a sociopolitical standpoint and we need to make those criticisms, but they don't start with "throw mRNA at a problem and magically we have a vaccine, if only people would care."
