Thread:
1) Family business is agriculture.
My grandfather was a lawyer with a degree from Columbia Law School. He was a lawyer for World Bank for a few years, until he realized he didn't like to work as a lawyer. Family had land, he opted out and started to work in farming.
2) Dad has a computer programming degree received in the early 1980s. Grandfather passed away right after his graduation and he started to work with the farm as well. He is farming for over 40 years now. Started raising beef in 1990's and doing dairy farming for over 20 years.
3) I studied Industrial Engineering and worked with industrial machinery after graduation and parallel to that worked on composting machinery.
We built an in-vessel composting machine prototype for the farm in 2012 and started composting manure generated by the dairy cows.
4) The compost was very high quality and was heavily demanded by seed manufacturers. We scaled and built a couple more composting facilities for other companies. After a couple years of working domestically, formed a partnership with a Canadian company that pioneered in-vessel.
5) This year marks my 9th year in composting. Compost is vital for soil regeneration. To survive in the fiat world, farmers are over-fertilizing soil with chemicals. This is increasing salt content of the soil, decreasing water retention and the organic material is diminishing.
6) Less organic material, less humic and fulvic acids in soil causes decreased root growth and lower nutrient absorption by plants. This means that plants can't even make the most of the chemical fertilizers applied and creates a loop in which more chemicals need to be applied.
7) Increased fertilizer use also increases dependency to third parties as these chemicals can't be manufactured internally. Since being in #bitcoin I started to look at composting and farming from a Citadel and self sovereignity point of view.
8)We started to think more about soil regeneration. Since the last 2 years we have heavily planting alfalfa, which requires no fertilizers, no pesticides, and is good for regenerating soil.
9) Currently we live in the city but started to plan and build the citadel right next to the farm. The next step is
to increase the level of sovereignty by adding bio gasification, biochar and electricity production.
10) I want to work on engineering @saltiola7 's idea that is seen in,
https://twitter.com/saltiola7/status/1371090697869262856 , in order to get the optimum amount of energy and organic material to regenerate the soil while using the generated heat to heat the greenhouses.
11) It was great to listen to @johnkvallis, @BitcoinAndCows and @untappedgrowth talk about a similar path, and hope to work on together in creating self sovereign citadels.
