I am realizing love isn't just one feeling. It is a state of being and is nuanced by the context of the love. There is love that is new, fresh and fun. It feels giddy, and joyous and like butterflies.
There is matured love-- love that has had time in the relational oak barrel. It feels safe, secure, known, comfortable.
There is betrayed love-- love that has experienced the pain of infidelity and there there more types of infidelity than sexual. This love feels broken, wounding, exhausting, pointless.
There is unrequited love-- this love is felt but never shared. It feels bittersweet, hopeful, hopeless and ultimately painful.
There is love that believes when there is no longer evidence to support love-- this love is faithful, stubborn, anguished and disappointed.
There is love for that or who no longer lives-- this love is profoundly sad, empty, full of aches and reminders.
There is resurrection love--this love is the fulfillment of all love. It feels like power, hope, justice and belonging. It is where all the other loves call home. It is the fulfilling love, the ancient love we were created to experience.
Which love are you feeling today?
