There has been some confusion over how the administration is treating families who cross the U.S.-Mexico border illegally. New data from CBP show that in most parts of the border, the majority of families encountered are being expelled. Exceptions are RGV, Yuma, & El Centro.
But because most families are being encountered in RGV, and a large number in Yuma and Del Rio (where only 55% are being expelled), this means that the majority of total families encountered across the border is allowed in to the country.
In RGV, the road block seems to be Mexico's refusal to accept back families with young kids. In Yuma and El Centro, the majority of families arriving are from countries other than Mex, Honduras, Guatemala, or El Salv, such as Haiti, many of whom Mexico also doesn't accept back.
