One of the most wasted and useless traditions in basketball...Two line layups. I& #39;ll just say it, they suck.
Coaches lament lack of practice time. ALERT - you are failing to redeem 20 additional minutes before every game.
Let& #39;s improve pre-game.
Here& #39;s how

Let& #39;s improve pre-game.
Here& #39;s how
1. Focus - Practice what happens most in games.
What shot do you get the most?
Here& #39;s the shot you get the least - wide open breakaway lay-ups that are only focused on looking cool.
Junior High mindset! This is NOT the mindset you want for your team to start the game with.

2. Shooting - Shot making wins games. Most teams don& #39;t get enough game shots up in pre-game. There is no plan, no action, no speed and 1-2 reps per shooter.
This is not how you get in rhythm. Include action based shooting min 5 reps per shooter.

3. Mini-Practice - Treat the time like a mini practice, have your coaches involved. Why are you sitting on the sideline when you can be making your team better. Get their minds right. Spend time on the things you need to do well in the game.
4. Actions - Most teams do not execute their actions well enough in games, their minds are elsewhere in pre-game.
Get action based skill development in your pre-game and you will begin the game with tighter execution.

5. Roles - There is no reason the end of the bench player should get as many shots in pre-game as your starting shooter. You need your shooters hot and confident, the player who isn& #39;t playing should be starring in their role, rebound and bring energy. This is worth points.
6. Core Temperature - Studies show players perform at peak state once they get their core temperature up. This is not a light sweat, this is full sweat. Your starters will perform better if they can get a full sweat before tip.
Structure your pre-game accordingly.

7. Reads - Few pre-game warm ups have reads with guided and live D prior to the game. Having decision making and reads a part of pre-game will improve bball IQ over time.
Your team will be primed to perform.

8. Confidence - Do lots of advantage O and Guided D things so your team sees the shots go in, passes completed, crisp hard cuts.
Go into a game hot, on a run and feeling good.

9. Intimidation - A crisp, powerful and efficient pre-game that looks better and different than what one normally sees can give a very real intimidation edge to your team.
Spend time teaching your pre-game, do things you do every day in practice and you will be good at it.

10. Spirit - pre-game should have a focus on NOISE, ENERGY & HUSTLE. The spirit you warm up with sets the tone for your bench.
Spirit improves performance. Teach it, emphasize it and require it. You will be glad you did.
