I can’t get it out of my head, this could be a long ramble, or a two post ramble, but stuck with me. People keep saying that TYB have been switching back and forth between heel and face. And I think that mostly hinges on the fact that they went through a phase of kicking everyone
And I can 100% understand how people can think that that period was them as heels. But that period came right after the initial Kenny turn where he basically told the Bucks “We’re gonna be the old Elite again.”
So that period wasn’t necessarily them as heels. It was two conflicted babyfaces doing what they believed were the things that made them the old elite. So you could say they were flip flopping between heel and face, but that does a disservice to the story.
It goes further when Good Brothers show up and start acting like the old Bullet Club never went anywhere, basically as The Young Bucks college frat friends that never grew out their douchey college phase.
The Good Brothers were back, The Elite had all the gold. All the pieces were together so of course Matt and Nick would throw it up for the hard cam for the sake of the old times. They had no reason not to.
But there was somebody in the background, who wasn’t there in the good old days. Don Callis pulling the strings of the operation. Actively manipulating Kenny in plain sight of the Bucks. Going so far as to snub them in tag matches and lie to their face.
Callis’ involvement showed the bucks that this wasn’t going back to the good old days. It was a greedy carny using the good times try and manipulate them and their friend into doing the heelish things that they’ve grown past. And they weren’t going to take it.
until Kenny finally spoke to them directly, from the heart. He could have gone to WWE. He could have stayed in Japan. But he took a gamble and chose The Young Bucks. The young bucks walked away and let Kenny get fucked up, but what Kenny said had planted a seed.
They never wanted to stop being Kenny’s friend. But Kenny was on a path that the bucks didn’t think he should going down. So they aligned themselves with Omega’s rival. Maybe they were hoping the visual would shake something loose in Kenny’s head.
Maybe they believed the only way to get sense into Kenny was to kick it in to him. But when it came time, Matt (the emotional one) couldn’t bring himself to do it. He had Omega’s words bouncing around in his head.
Moxley, being the no-bullshit ass kicker said “quit fucking around, let’s crack some skulls.” And just started murdering Omega while the bucks watched. Last time the bucks left Kenny to get brutalized, but not this time.
The bucks realized what Kenny meant when he said “I chose you”. he really said was “trust me”. And they finally understood what the elite were. They weren’t heels for heels sake. They weren’t “kick everyone for the hell of it”. They were friends who always had each other’s backs.
And that was the first and only official turn that the bucks have had so far.
This was so much longer than I thought it would be, and I don’t expect anyone to read all of it. But I just needed to vomit all of the narrative I had in my head onto a page. It probably reads like a shitty fanfic and I’m not sorry.
