Late January, Tampa Bay. Raymond James Stadium.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lead the San Francisco 49ers 33-28 with just under 2 minutes left in the NFC Championship game after a Ryan Succop field goal.

Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers take the field at their own 25.

1/20
Garoppolo goes into the huddle with a statline of 19/30 with 200 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 INT. He started the game out strong, but the Buccaneers have begun to get to him rushing 4. He's struggled since.

The 1st downplay is a Mostert run, 4 yards behind Trent Williams. 2/
2nd & 6. The 49ers have all 3 timeouts but opt to go no-huddle. The snap is taken with 1:31 left on the clock. It's a quick slant to Aiyuk, Jimmy hesitates and waits for Aiyuk to pass Lavonte David in the flat before throwing. The pass is complete, but Jimmy hits the turf. 3/
Replay shows that edge rusher Shaquil Barrett landed directly on Jimmy's left knee in an attempt to sack him.

Jimmy is able to walk off the field with the help of his teammates. Jimmy led his team to a 12-4 record, but his season looks to be over. 4/
1st & 10 with 1:20 left on the clock. 61 yards to the endzone. All attention turns to the 49ers backup QB, 3rd overall pick Justin Fields.

Fields has played in two games so far his rookie season, both at the end of blowouts. He is 7/12 with 80 yards on the season. 5/
Fields goes over to Jimmy who is about to go into the trainer's tent, Garoppolo whispers something in his ear and Fields leaves to go to find his coach.

Shanahan gives his rookie the play call and some words of encouragement. The NFC Championship is in Justin Fields's hands.6/
Tampa, expecting an RPO or run to ease Justin into the game, stacks the box. Fields changes the play at the line.

The ball is snapped into a naked bootleg play-action. Fields dumps the ball into the flat for Kittle. Kittle turns upfield to see 2 DB's and a lot of grass. 7/
He breaks the tackle from Sean Murphy-Bunting and drags Mike Edwards another 8 yards before help arrives to push him out of bounds.

Alex Mack slaps Fields on the ass and the 49ers sideline is electric as it is now 1st & 10 at the Buccaneers 45. 1:02 on the clock. 8/
Fields takes the next snap from under center and hands it off to Mostert. He only gains 3 after a missed block, and the 49ers are forced to take a timeout. 2nd & 7, 55 seconds left, 42 yards to go. 9/
The 49ers have to pass now, everyone in the building knows it. This is the first true test for the rookie.

Field's lines up in shotgun and takes the snap, he moves through his reads before finding Deebo Samuel open on a crosser. He never sees Devin White. 10/
Time stops for everyone in the stadium as the ball hits White's hands just in front of an outstretched Deebo.

It harmlessly hits the turf. The Tampa sideline lets out a collective groan, that would have sent them to another Super Bowl. Attention shifts back to Fields. 11/
3rd & 7. 49 seconds left. 42 yards to go. The 49ers go empty and Tamps brings six to test the rookie's guts.

Fields recognized SMB off the edge and dumps the ball to Richie James who is pushed out of bounds just short of the first. 12/
4th and inches. 42 seconds left. 35 yards to go. The 49ers come out in 21 personnel. The ball is snapped and the entire offensive line moves to the right as Fields hands the ball to Jeff Wilson.

It's a fake. Jusczcyk and McGlinchey fly out left as Fields pulls the ball. 13/
The first designed run of Fields's NFL career. Tampa never expected it. Juszczyk walls off Jason Pierre-Paul who recognized the read but not soon enough.

McGlinchey weighing in at 290 is fast enough to make it all the way up to Jamel Dean and chop block him. It's on Fields.14/
Fields cuts behind McGlinchey and turns towards the pylon 20 yards away. He looks right and sees the unthinkable. Devin White read the play post-snap and is almost even with Fields. It's 4.44 versus 4.42. They both realize the gravity of their situation as they pick up speed. 15/
10-yard line. Bruce Arians is on the field trying to see the play. Ndamukong Suh and Trent Williams watch hopelessly 20 yards away. Kyle Shanahan takes off his hat due to nervousness.

Fields reaches out his right hand as White dives. 16/
White closes his eyes and swipes with his arms hoping he gets a piece of the rookie QB. Just before he hits the turf he feels something with his right hand and grabs on. 17/
Devin White opens his eyes. In his right hand: a towel with a distinct SF logo. Fields jumps into the endzone and the 49ers sideline explodes. Fields and Aiyuk embrace. McGlinchey pumps his fists in the air and stares down the Tampa bench. Kyle is mobbed on the sideline. 18/
After a Robbie Gould PAT, the score is 35-33 SF. Tampa, still in shock from one of the greatest drives in playoff history, muffs the Wishnowsky squib kick and Tarvarious Moore recovers the ball.

The game ends and during the celebration, both Brady and Fields go to Jimmy 19/
Jimmy, with a crutch under his left shoulder, embraces them both. He learned from Brady, he led his team to the conference championship and he taught Fields how to win it.

The 49ers will be 7 point underdogs in SB LVI, against the Kansas City Chiefs. 20/
