Why this is not a good idea, a thread to hopefully educate some people (rts appreciated + repost because of poor wording) https://twitter.com/DiscussingFilm/status/1380190217743794176
First terms I'll use
system - someone with did/osdd
singlet - someone without did/osdd
DID - dissociative identity disorder
Yes I'm a part of a system
Please note that these are my personal thoughts on this, but I did reach out to a few other systems for their thoughts on this
1. Terminology
"Multiple personalities disorder" is an outdated term for DID. It was changed to reflect a better understanding of the condition - it's characterized by a fragmentation or splintering of identity, rather than by a proliferation or growth of separate personalities.+
[Got this from: https://www.psychologytoday.com/intl/conditions/dissociative-identity-disorder-multiple-personality-disorder]
By using the wrong term (MPD instead of DID) the movie is already spreading misinformation - supporting the idea that DID is just someone with multiple personalities (when it's NOT).
2. The fucking murder alter thing again
Yet another media with this exact stereotype ! How nice ! /s
Now, you might be thinking - but what's so bad about a horror movie with a murder alter if they state that it's "Only fiction/for horror purposes"? Well here's your answer: +
Fiction affects reality. If you're an individual who's NEVER heard of stuff like DID, you're either gonna think that it's all made up and nonexistent, or that all systems have a "Murder alter" or that they're a threat to others. When that's bullshit! Systems already get treated +
like shit exactly because of media like this - because "oh you're gonna hurt me, you have DID and you can kill me" or "can you switch on command because i wanna talk to your murder alter?", or just people thinking we're scary +
(For what? Existing??). My point is, we really shouldn't support a movie like this. And please don't, especially if you're a singlet.
Using mental disorders, especially disorders that are already +
heavily stigmatized for your little movies is really disgusting? Please. Don't? And you clearly haven't even done any proper research if you're calling it MPD. For fucks sake if you're gonna make a movie about someone with a disorder do it RIGHT.
3. The actor
Now, I don't have anything against Tom Holland himself. I barely know the dude.
What bothers me is that the actor who's supposed to be playing someone with a dissociative disorder... Has never struggled with anything similar. If you're gonna cast someone for a what+
seems to be a pretty imporant role in the movie, cast someone who knows what they're portraying? I promise it'd be so much better and more effective. And if you can't find anyone, then just... Don't make a movie like this? In general? It already seems full of stereotypes and +
misinformation. Like a middle school project you made 2 hours before classes. It's just not gonna be good.
Here's some websites I recommend if you wanna learn more about systems

With that being said - end of the thread. Now singlets instead of supporting this movie, let's support actual systems in need! Systems feel free to drop your links (to anything that could help) and I'll try to rt all of them
Also if you're not interested in minecraft roleplay it's not worth following me for the thread this is In fact an account that posts quotes about a villain on a minecraft roleplay server
Another Also tweet I'm not trying to like end tom holland or stop the production with this thread (I don't think either of these are possible lol) as I said in the first post I literally just wanna educate others
saying this in case someone gets me wrong 👍👍

ANOTHER THING BUT I REALLY WANT PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND WHAT I'M SAYING
I'm aware the person who tweeted the op is NOT the movie and (from what others have said) the movie takes place in the past - I just wanted to point out the not so right term - and even if the movie does take +
place in the past I hope they'll mention (at the start, end, whenever) that the name has been changed (and why)
