rhys was never meant to be praised for doing the bare minimum..if fans are doing that, they’re wrong I guess?? but stop blaming him for that, he never asked to be praised for doing bare minimum things (ie “giving” feyre a choice). the reason the books are written like that to 1/3
emphasize whenever feyre has a choice in the night court is to highlight her experience as an abusive survivor. the point is that SHE’S surprised she has a choice bc she’s so used to not having one. the point of those lines where it said “it was always a choice with him” 2/3
was not praise him for doing bare minimum stuff, it was to show readers how badly abused feyre was. it even explicitly said in one of the books “she knew how badly she’d been treated before if freedom felt like a privilege and not an inherent right” 3/3
so again, no one is (or no one should be) praising rhys for “giving” feyre a choice. the books are written like that to highlight feyre’s POV as an abuse survivor.
also don’t understand that argument that he’s not a feminist when he obviously does a lot of outreach and social work in the gender issues field. He banned wing-clipping which can be seen as a parallel to FGM in our world, he trains female illyrian warriors and said that he
would personally train them to use a bow because it’s the most difficult weapon and the males there taunt them with it. He created that library for the priestesses and works frequently with sexual assault survivors. It was implied he killed a third of his court for dissenting
when he appointed two women to his inner circle. Not saying he dismantled the whole patriarchy lmfao but he obviously spent a large portion of his political and personal life working on gender inequality. This doesn’t mean he’s perfect or has never made mistakes but he’s
definitely a feminist in the modern sense of the word. feminists are not saints or angels but it’s weird to say that this is not an ideology he believes
