You know what strikes me as the most ironic about a lot of physical licensed stuff that never makes its way to Europe sans importing?
You& #39;d figure the companies licensing shit out would prefer the region that uses a different region coding (B) than one that uses the same one (A)
Like I heard there& #39;s supposed to be some kinda locking system that means a japanese importer would still have to mess with their player to get a US-disc running on their players, but idk if there& #39;s any truth to that, so... idk, just seems odd to me
I mean region-locking in general is fucking daft, but if you& #39;re gonna do it/mandate companies licensing stuff from you do it, for the physical stuff it seems weird to not include/target the region somewhat less likely to harm the sales of The Thing& #39;s sales in Source Nation
Granted, there is probably the issue of Europe being a lot of Separate countries as opposed to the States (and Canada).
Like how many languages would the licensor mandate you gotta cover if a company wanted to release in more than the one EU country?
Not to mention that it& #39;d probably add to the cost of licensing the thing at all, which I& #39;d imagine for the companies still doing physical stuff, probably isn& #39;t worth the hastle, easier to stick to where you know your company has/will sell stock
Like the UK companies that stock the big names (y& #39;know, Draggin& #39; Bawl Superb, Boku no Eiyuu Gakuen, Singular Part*), and mirroring the bds for simulcast shows the US companies do, they& #39;re not gonna suddenly decide to release Srungle in multiple countries (especially since Brexit)
So like, really the only option for filling the niches not really covered by any other company would be to start your own company (or like, hope somebody else has the same idea)
Pardon me while I go and find a laugh track long enough to highlight how much of a non-starter that is
I remember someone suggesting that to me a year or two back and man what a disingenuous idea to plant in somebody& #39;s noggin.
Like can you guess the amount of money needed just for equipment, staff, advertising and distro alone?
I sure as hell can& #39;t!
And then the license for the thing itself, absolutely beats me how much it& #39;d be, especially for something at least mildly popularish (cuz like, frankly if you were gonna get into this business when streaming is killing it, you NEED a name a lot of people would be interested in)
idk where I& #39;m going with this thread tbh
I think it& #39;s mainly just to give a less caustic/agitated version of why I tend to be really cynical when stuff is licensed in ""the west"", and why I don& #39;t expect the situation to change any more than what it did years ago (ie: not at all)
