Attack on Titan, a renowned manga by many across the globe, obviously would become one of the series that would have a highly anticipated ending. Now that that ending is out people are disappointed saying it was deplorable and that it ruined the series. I'd like think otherwise.
In the very few first chapters of the manga it had already been stated and had become a recurring theme. Why Eren wanted to leave the walls, why Karla loved her child so much, why Willy wanted to live. Human nature. Simply because, they were born into this world.
Because he was born into this world, the natural human curiosity would spur on Eren to eradicate the titans allowing him to be free. Sacrificing many in the process eren fought for freedom which is why he rejected Zeke's plan, and created the best possible outcome for everyone.
And all of this had been a predetermined part of his character. His overwhelming amount of curiosity and his inherited titan power had all been connected to one thing. The recurring topic of the manga, Freedom.
Eren couldnt stop, if eren had continued like everyone wanted him too he wouldnt have been able to save everyone. Which is why Eren regretting his actions before he had declared war on the world in Marley made sense. He wanted too, it was inhumane. But he couldnt stop
To make sure everything went according to plan he had to kill his own mother, turn a blind eye to sasha, Erwin and all other humans inside and outside of the walls. To seemingly betray his friends, father and mother and more.
Everyone trying to reduce Eren's character after the chapter is dumb. He hadn't changed. From chapter 1 straight to chapter 139 were the same. To keep moving forward toward absolute freedom, it had just turned out that the freedom he longed so deeply for, just wasnt his own.
And knowing that he was not fighting for himself, the experience he had in Paths made a lot more sense and correlates with the ending and mikasa a whole lot more that it did when the chapter released
Ymir was a slave to Fritz for 2000 years for the sake of love, she would put her life on the line for fritz because she had loved him so much. The reason why she chose mikasa to be the key because she was the same. The same unrequited love she had for Fritz was -
the same love Mikasa had for Eren. The same why she would put her life on the line was the exact same with mikasa, which is why Ymir had appeared when Mikasa kissed Eren and why it was Mikasa who had to be the one to put an End to the titans.
The ending had no plot holes, and everything had a valid explanation. Whether you like it or not the manga ended as the ideal manga Isayama had envisioned. Taking on such a simple but complex theme like Freedom and creating a masterpiece of a manga is truly amazing.
A true 10/10. The zenith of fiction. Masterpiece. The Pinnacle of Pinnacles. Best of all time. One in a Century. Each of these could be used to describe the manga known as...
