For me, the worst part about the ending is that it makes a lot of previous events, some of the moments that were seen as milestones in the story, feel hollow in hindsight. This was one of my favorite pages in the entire series and now it doesn't mean a damn thing. #aot139spoilers
The way the story built up Eren's will being the embodiment of the Attack Titan just to subvert it in the most lazy way possible in the final chapter... Yeah, Eren. I dont know why either. #aot139spoilers
I think the main problem with the final chapter is that the final "twists" and "reveals" fall flat on their feet and add little to nothing to the characters and their motives. Especially Eren. #aot139spoilers
For example, revealing Eren was the one who made Dina eat Carla. It was hinted in 130 but the way it was revealed, especially this late in the story, feels like a mere intent to shock the readers. It didn't felt earned nor satisfying. #aot139spoilers
And don't get me started on the Mikasa/Ymir stuff. Her being the reason Ymir stopped the curse came out of nowhere. Everything up until now pointed at Eren being the person she had been waiting for for 2000 years. #aot139spoilers
But now, after being shown how miserable she had been both in life and in the paths realm, we're told Ymir loved King Fritz just so we can establish a parallel between her and Mikasa and buy into this half assed explanation. #aot139spoilers
And just like that, the titan powers are gone. #aot139spoilers
Now, onto Eren. My issue isn't him showing vulnerability, not even him throwing a tantrum over Mikasa. Is the fact his motives to do the rumbling were reduced to something he would have done regardless, even if he isn't entirely sure as to why he did it. #aot139spoilers
Yes... Eren has always been emotionally unstable, a person who wears his heart on a sleeve. But the story led u to believe that unlocking the AoT memories had forced Eren to mature to see things from multiple perspectives (convo with Reiner). #aot139spoilers
We were also led to believe his motivation to do the rumbling had multiple layers besides his undying quest for freedom. This chapter makes all of those other motivations feel like excuses to try to justify himself for doing something he would've done regardless. #aot139spoilers
In the end, the rumbling was just something Eren wanted to do (even if he isn't entirely sure why) because his head got messed up by the FT powers, but is cool he can setup his dear friends to stop him because that way he can feel less guilty about it. 🤨 #aot139spoilers
I think I don't need to elaborate why this is peak comedy and undermines the entire concept behind the alliance's stand against Eren. #aot139spoilers
I think Isayama wanted Eren to be remembered in a positive light by his friends (and maybe the readers) but the execution was awful. It feels forced and OOC. Does that mean if they knew he was setting everything up they wouldn't have tried to stop him? #aot139spoilers
TLDR: To me, the rumbling felt much more compelling in regards to Eren's character before reading this chapter. Now it feels like something he wasn't even sure it was right or wrong but he was gonna do anyway. And he doesn't even fully understands why. #aot139spoilers
