Dickinson season 3 theories, dumping historical facts & some fictional ideas; a speculation thread

#Dickinson
Warning: I'm just gonna write a lot of stuff. I'm not claiming everything will happen in the show or will be totally relevant to the show. If you disagree with these or you have different theories, feel free to drop your thoughts! Also pls let me know if my info is wrong!
First of all, we all know s3 is gonna be about civil war & grief and will be darker. And we know Nobody is gonna die. Will Pullen was on set, so we'll see either Frazar's death scene in the battlefield or his ghost/Nobody during his funeral. Or maybe both?++

#Dickinson
A funeral scene seems certain, with these pictures. We will see Death as well since Wiz & Hailee filmed together. She might ask him when the war will be over or something. Or she can recite "It feels a shame to be alive" poem (which I'll include in the next tweet)++
Frazar's death will be devastating to Austin. If they show his death scene and the news being received by the Dickinson family, we can see Austin like the way Emily describes in this letter to Sam(i don't think Sam will be back, there can be mention of his name at most.) ++
-This can cause two things: Austin could behave like an asshole, completely mistreating Sue. OR, this can cause some sympathy between them and repair some of their problems. I'm not suggesting a romantic relationship but like they can be friends maybe? (Assuming Sue will+++
comfort him.)

-But ofc Austin's real comfort will be probably Jane. Their affair was heavily hinted in s2.

-Now speaking of Sue & Austin, here comes the rabbit hole: Ned Dickinson's birth in 1861, which is a year before season 3's timeline. Ofc, the show isn't strict++
about dates & takes a lot of liberty and idk what Anna means by "dad"
We are just looking at possibilities here and let's say they are gonna follow the kid storyline.

-In s2 finale, Mr & Mrs Dickinson mentioned that they wanted grandchildren. They also gave a weird look++
when Austin said 'Sue's living her life' and looked at Jane.

-Alena said EmiSue's problem will be trying to figure out how to function a sustainable relationship when Sue is married to Austin. So ofc, there's gonna be pressure on Sue & Austin about their marriage and it's++
gonna be worse than before probably because now they have different partners which they must hide (especially emisue, because there's also homophobia in the equation for them) and also, now they are gonna be married for a longer time with still no kid (if they don't start the++
season with Ned's birth or something) So, having a kid storyline isn't that impossible. As I said earlier, Austin & Sue can be on better terms, so they can have an agreement about it.

Or: there won't be any kid storyline. I honestly don't know how everything can progress in 10
episodes. So I'm hesitant about the kid storyline at the moment. I'm 50%-50%.

Now, speaking of #EmiSue, what's in store for them?

-One thing I'm certain of is: Safe in their alabaster chambers will be in s3. It's a death themed poem, in sync with s3's tone. And there is++
proof that Emily asked Sue's opinion about it. Sue didn't like the second stanza and Emily wrote another version for her liking, saying she values Sue's praise and wants to make Sue & Austin proud. Critic Martha Nell Smith even thinks they had a poetry workshop. In the show++
we already got a glimpse of this. Also according to Martha Dickinson Bianchi, Sue & Emily were constantly together, either taking walks or meeting in Homestead. (Martha was born in 1866 so her memories would be more like from 1870s &80s but it's likely that we'll see emisue like+
this in s3.) Also, I think I read that once Emily stayed so long at the Evergreens that her father had to take her home & scold her. So, in the show Emily & Sue spending so much time together can be unpleasant & suspicious to the family. And the pressure, once again, will be++
exhausting to emisue.

-Also I have another idea, so, in 1865 Sue's sister Harriet died and it unexpectedly affected her as she fell seriously ill. Habegger links these letters to that event.

-I know the show's Sue already lost everyone in her family. I'll point out sth else++
-Idk if it'll be relevant in the show but Aunt Lavinia died in 1861, I wanted to mention bcs s3 is gonna be about grief. We know Frazar died. And with the war there's death everywhere & it's a depressing time for Emily, she may fear losing Sue too. So she can say this to her: +
Some other #EmiSue stuff that idk if will be relevant to s3 but I'm still adding:

#Dickinson
Also this would be pretty cool if there was a scene like the beginning of 1x02 and Emily watches Sue's face as she recites this poem... Or idk i just wanna hear one of her poems that has Sue's name lol

#EmiSue #Dickinson
Also introducing Dollie poems😁 Dollie is Sue's nickname. They never used it in the show so I'm not sure if these poems will be in s3 but they talk about death & fear of losing Sue so I wanted to share.

“Death won't hurt—now Dollie's here!”

Now what about Dickinson-civil war and Higginson?

Most ppl think Emily internalized the war, meaning she did not have a political agenda or was vocal like Walt Whitman. They think she linked the war with her own internal fights with Puritans, family, love affairs etc. In s2++
finale, Nobody said "You have wars to fight, Emily Dickinson" which can be seen as a mirror for this civil war interpretation. I think we'll see a lot of juxtaposition between Emily's life and the soldiers fighting on the field.

-What can be her wars?
1)Trying to have a normal+
relationship with Sue while not being outed.

2) She doesn't want fame but she can still think about her place in the world, how her words can affect the world. She can submit her poems anonymously to Drum Beat to show her support to the Union

3) a war about her talent??++
In 1862, ED wrote to T.W Higginson to ask if he could say her verse is alive. I think this wording is also interesting since she asks during a time death takes over the country.

What was Higginson's idea about her poems? Well, not the most supportive ideas, let's say. He++
praised her but he also offered her a "surgery" suggesting her to be more conventional. He thought she wasn't ready for publication. The show's Emily can be displeased with his "surgery" and can question her style, maybe??? But irl Emily didn't really follow his suggestions yet
We'll have more idea regarding this possibility once casting news drops so I won't analyze much about Helen Hunt Jackson & Kate Scott Turner
Adding these too. "If you know" what??? What's gonna happen in s3 ep7 scene9??? Will we have a musical themed episode???
Also I forgot to add, i think during the war scenes, the soldiers may recite one of Emily's poems. I think that'd make a pretty cool scene.

And that's all for now. I'll be adding to this thread if I remember or find something else

#Dickinson
So there's this article talking about #Dickinson s3 locations 👀 I'll analyze the war poems later, as of rn "it feels a shame to be alive" could be used in the scene Emily imagines herself in the warfield, maybe? Like she sees the dead soldiers and starts reciting it?

And the++
bar?? I'll do some research on this bar & the activist women later. Looks like it'll be important in the show 👀 But idk how can it be directly linked to Emily's story since she wasn't involved with any movement like that. Maybe it's gonna be Hattie's storyline?

#Dickinson
I thought of Walt Whitman when I first read the words "gay bar" and yeah, he frequently went there in real life. He was very vocal about the war & was criticized harshly by Higginson. So he can be the literary cameo of s3

#Dickinson
Also I manifested this in January and I really hope something similar to this happens lmao
