15 years ago saw the debut of Gundoh Musashi, "The Worst Anime of the Century".

Take Ex-Arm, replace the CG with digital animation & the bland plot with an excellent concept conceived of by Monkey Punch, & then have it descend into Dante's Inferno over the course of 26 episodes. https://twitter.com/sousai_h/status/1380173839364055048
I reviewed the entire show in 2011 & it remains the most entrancingly terrible anime I have ever seen.

Photo backgrounds aplenty, audio desyncing all over (including having people's voices come out of the wrong mouths!), and just too much else to list.

In 2018 I teamed with @apricotsushi to translate a tell-all interview with the producer & director.

We found a respected animator-turned-director who got screwed over constantly & a producer who decided to just say "I can make money by trolling everyone!"

Unfortunately, a lack of availability has kept Gundoh Musashi from being more well known. All Japan ever got was the first 8 episodes released as a boxset while the show was still airing, in an effort to make a quick buck.

Even these DVDs were botched, almost as if on purpose.
Meanwhile, Kaze France somehow managed to license Gundoh Musashi, & put out the whole show across three 2-disc singles, plus a later boxset, in Europe in 2008.

To this day, this remains the sole way to get all of Gundoh Musashi on home video... And, no, there are no English subs
Unfortunately, ACC Production (the studio that made the show) went out of business in late 2007, & Monkey Punch himself disowned the show upon its debut, so it's possible his estate could literally prevent Gundoh Musashi from ever getting re-released or even licensed ever again.
To end on a good note, director Yuki Kinoshita is still a respected part of the anime industry to this day, doing the occasional bit of storyboarding, key animation, & animation direction as recently as this year

Understandably, though, he has no interest in directing ever again
To clarify, the interview lists exactly who Gundoh Musashi belongs to:
-Monkey Punch (who instantly disavowed it)
-ACC Pro (which doesn't exist anymore)
-E-Net Frontier (which actually is still around, and would later help produce gdgd Fairies)

Not good chances for licensing.
To finish this thread off, I must reiterate that Gundoh Musashi has an outstanding concept to it!

"An alternate history where Toyotomi ended the Sengoku period, so Tokugawa wants to return history to its correct course... And he's the villain!"

A shame the story goes nowhere.
