I'm noticing that when I speak to my significantly more "conservative" family members, the way things are framed is such a huge part of the way they understand things.
1/
They don't examine their opinions beyond surface statements like "Lockdown is bad for business owners" or "Immigration drives down wages" etc.
Once I clarify that their issue isn't actually with public health restrictions or immigration, they open up to broader conversation
I had a long conversation yesterday with a "conservative" family member about how the actual issue he was expressing concern about (in both those areas) was policy and the influence of Capitalism on politicians and their decisions.
In the end, he agreed with me that the solution to his concerns was
1) better support for small businesses so we can have a circuit breaker lockdown to save our people and economy
And
2) better policy around TFWs to prevent businesses from taking advantage.
