Last night was the most difficult Common Council meeting I have ever had. This was the most exhausted and defeated I have felt coming home from City Hall.

I introduced both a mask mandate ordinance and a resolution condemning anti-Asian American Pacific Islander hate crimes.
These were two important items for the City of West Allis to pass to keep people safe and to recognize what’s happening to the AAPI community.
However, the ordinance failed, and the resolution was not adopted the way I had originally written it. Alderpersons reacted by adding amendments to address all hate crimes. People questioned my judgment and intentions.
They were gaslighting and resisting me, which was hard for me to process.

I’m honestly hurting right now, but I promise to continue to fight because this work is just way too important to give up.
I’ll be reintroducing the resolution condemning anti-AAPI violence with my original language, so if you live in West Allis, please contact your alderpersons to support this effort.
