1- There has been a lot of talk about cancel culture in the last few years, and more in the last few days. Some would have you believe that putting things right or standing up to bullies and racists and holding them accountable is cancel culture.

2- But no, that is not "cancel culture" holding people accountable for their deeds and words, pushing companies to change their image by removing hurtful stereotypes is not cancel culture.

3- Yes, people have lost their jobs after saying racists, sexists, or doing something untoward and that is unfortunate. But just think about how those people so open with their hate and biases must have treated their employees, clients, or others, when no one was looking?

4- As for companies changing their image, it’s up to them and it’s a good thing because the next generation will have fewer things to unconsciously affect their views of minorities, make them more tolerant of differences and less judgmental in general.

5- That being said, there is a real cancel culture going on out there, one that is far more harmful to our nation as a whole. In the last few years, we have seen a range of laws, proposed bills that have affected targeted specific segments of the population.

6- What is being canceled? For one, women’s rights. The right to abortion. Reducing abortion clinics, until some cities have only one clinic if that. Laws removing women’s right to choose, putting their lives in more and more danger every day.

7- The right to vote. Not satisfied with the ever-growing list of obstacles aimed at making it more difficult to vote, there is a trend calling for “quality of votes over quantity”. If we don’t do something voting will become soon become a privilege and not a right.

8- Trans rights. Another group that is slowly being canceled right out of sight are transgenders. No right to health care, no right to participate in sports for their entire school life. Not even the right to enter the bathrooms of their gender.

9- Yes, there is a cancel culture out there, but what is being canceled is Democracy, slowly but surely laws and bills are being introduced, voted and passed, that are changing the US from a Democracy to an Authoritarian state. And it is happening right under our noses.

10 - So keep whining about toys and packaging and one day you’ll end up going to the polls to fill a checklist to see if you’re qualified to vote and make no mistakes being white won’t guarantee your right to vote!
