KMCA, on behalf of the 26 member agencies, filed a written objection to the Ministry of National Defense over the guidelines the Ministry set forth in the implementation of the new law allowing postponement of military service for popular culture artists.
According to the revised Military Service Act, pop culture artists can postpone their military service until the age of 30 if they are recommended by Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the recipient of a cultural medal or award. The association points out
that it is nearly impossible for people in their twenties to receive the Order of Cultural Merit as one of the criteria to be a candidate for the award is 15 years of activity. Kpop singers who start activities in their teens would not be eligible until their 30s
at which time the postponement provision is of no use. The KMCA points out the lack of equity when venture capitalists and those benefiting from venture capital are allowed postponement as well as high culture, artists, and athletes (who receive exemptions)
