Just watching Trey Lance for the first time, so gonna tweet out some plays as I go. First throw here. Motion tells him man coverage pre-snap. Knows he has hitch vs off corner. Confirms CB sinks off snap, quickly works to the hitch from far hash. Nice start
Don't love this decision. Appears to be a called run, but Lance spots a CB playing off and can throw a quick hitter to the WR. Problem is the safety is working outside too, so had a good box count. WR made it work
Very next play was a much better decision. This time the safety isn't cheating to the WR, so it's true one-on-one outside. That's a much better time to take that throw.
Little jet sweep fake into a bootleg/rollout. running to his left, still has the ability to generate velocity to hit the comeback outside in time. Nice ball
TE in slot to the left runs a quick hook, which is where Lance looks to throw. But he didn't see or feel the safety buzzing down to that route from the back side
Nice quick processing here by Lance. Motion pre-snap tells him its man coverage. Has TE spotting up with RB working to flat. Knows TE can set a pick on the LB for the RB, so quickly works to the back and gets the ball out early to maximize YAC
Leak concept still undefeated. Wide open, still a nice job by Lance executing the fake and pulling up to deliver throw. Dime.
3rd and 9 here. Pressure arrives off both edges as Lance hits top of his drop. Nice job stepping up to avoid it. Would love to see him reset and hit the over route, but certainly don't hate that he has the athleticism and decisiveness to take off and run for the 1st down.
Good job keeping it simple. Play-action, knows the corner outside is playing off and bailing against a quick hitch. Good timing and arm to drive the ball from far hash.
Dime here. Another play-action fake, this time with a double move from the receiver isolated to the left. Lance spots the safety bite up on the fake over and drops a dime over the top of him on the double move.
Lance was a bit late here. Working to the quick hitch from the inside receiver. Safety steps up from deep to cover that receiver, but there was a small window to hit that if ball is out as receiver breaks. Lance waits to see him break before throwing, allowing DB to break it up
More play action here. Deep over from the receiver to the left with a clearing post route from the right. Like Lance's placement here. Feels the back side corner sinking back into path, so puts the ball on the receiver rather than leading him into the CB.
Another dime here. Stacked set outside to the right. both DBs sink back to cover the vertical route, but Lance trusts his guy to outrun them. Takes his shot before the WR is even with the slot defender. Drops a dime over his shoulder for a TD.
Lance's mobility makes him a weapon in empty sets. Still gives the offense a running threat that the defense has to honour in the box. They don't here and Lance makes them pay.
With a huge lead, Lance was pulled after this drive, so that ends this thread.
