1/ I've spent the past year marketing for Gen Z & learning what makes good copywriting stand out.

A thread on tactical action items below ⤵️
2/ Write as if you’re speaking to one person directly.

Don’t write as if you’re addressing a crowd or a public audience. People listen if they are addressed personally (even at scale). Using “you” will resonate more.
3/ Cut the fluff.

Be authentic. Under-promise and over-deliver on your value proposition. Gen Z is practical, skeptical, and does not need to be sold to.
4/ Gen Z humor is ironic & chaotic.

Our culture has given harmless emojis other connotations. If you know, you know.

Before hopping on a trend, ensure that it is indeed serious. Culture flares quickly - your copywriting can be dated by latching onto certain memes or trends.
5/ Clear > clever.

What good is a witty statement if your audience can’t get the clarity they need when interacting with your brand?
6/ Don’t “try hard."

There is a fine line between cringe-y and cool with trying to fit in with Gen Z.

If you’re going to attempt to add slang in your brand & copywriting, only do so tastefully with full awareness of what it means.
7/ Personify your brand.

Gen Z rallies behind people, stories, and journeys, rather than institutions. Does your brand have a figure or a story that you share?
8/ Social proof works, time and time again.

Let others speak for your brand rather than yourself. Use testimonials and quotes to inspire your audience with new ways to interact with your brand.
9/ Avoid typos.

One misspelling, extra space, or wrong punctuation can tarnish the trustworthiness of your copywriting. Always good to double check, and check again.
