Tonight, ALBA Berlin will play their last match of the season in the #Euroleague against Crvena Zvezda.
As a small tribute, we are looking into the story of one of the fan`s favorites: Luke Sikma.
Where and how did his journey start? 1/
Luke, son of NBA Legend Jack Sikma, attended Bellevue HS, where he made the 2007 Star Times All-Area Team, consisting of the top five players from the Seattle area as selected by the Seattle Times and also participated in the Washington-Oregon All Star Game.
He attended the University of Portland @PortlandPilots , an NCAA Div I programm that competes in the WCC. During his tenure, he showed his all-around playing ability, being named to an All-WCC Honorable Mention and leading his team in rebounding. 3/
After graduating and going undrafted in the NBA 2011 draft, his first pro stop overseas was with UB La Palma, then in the 2nd Spanish division, 8,798.54 km far from the University of Portland. There, he played alongside Edy Tavares under the guidance of Coach Frade. 4/
The following season, he joined Autocid Burgos, still in Leb oro. After a notable season averaging 11.8 points and 7.7 rebounds and being the runner ups in the Cup, he made it to the ACB and signed with CB Canarias.
CB Canarias ( @CB1939Canarias) had just made it back to the ACB since 1990. Under the guidance of Coach Martinez @3alemar, now in the CBA, Luke averaged 9.9 pts, 7 rebs and 2 ast in 26.4 minutes, sharing the court with players like Carl English, Richotti or Sekulic.
His next stop would be a current powerhouse, @valenciabasket. Under Pedro Martinez @pedroma2014 and after a tough loss in the #Eurocup final, Valencia went on to upset Real Madrid in the finals and won the @ACBCOM Trophy for the first time in their history.
Being on top of the world, Sikma must have had a lot of interest from many parties, but he surprised the basketball world by rocking the boat and taking on an adventure outside of Spain. There, he would meet again with people he knew from his first stop back in La Palma...8/
With his commitment to @albaberlin, Luke would work again alongside Frade (and @Himar_Ojeda as GM) and would even have the opportunity to play against former teammate @waltertavares22 , now in @RMBaloncesto
Luke quickly became a fan favourite, even receiving his own chant (Luuuuuuuuuke) every time he attempts a three. With his leadership and under Spanish legend Aito Garcia Reneses @AlejandroGar114 he led ALBA back to the #Euroleague and has won the @easyCreditBBL trophy and cup
The story of Luke in Berlin is still being written, but as for now, make sure to tune in tonight to watch his last appearance of the season in the #Euroleague and enjoy his court vision and all-around game!
