I’m a bit surprised how easily surprised Canadian governments continue to be one year into the pandemic.
I realize they’re trapped in the logic of mitigation which necessarily involves tinkering.

Still... even with that in mind, would YOU chose to have 3 or 4 news conferences in a week to deliver bad news of your making? There’s still clearly a lot of flying blind.
I listened to @Santepub_Mtl’s news conference last night because that’s what I do for fun these days.
Two takeaways:
1) They are rightly proud of how they’ve managed to keep a lid on the Montréal 3rd wave beyond what any other big Canadian city has managed...
2) They are resigned to the fact they are days away from that good run ending. The wave is coming next week.

Tonight I’m watching to see if the government will act on that information or react next week instead.
Didn’t start out meaning to make a thread about Montréal or Québec because it’s no different anywhere west of here from what I can tell. Just no foresight. Are they well advised? Is it the data gap we journalists harp about constantly? Compromise culture? Systems built to react?
