Locum Shifts and Holiday Pay - How Doctors are Underpaid Millions 🏛️

Most but not all people will know that if you work as a locum on a staff bank, you accrue annual leave. Because most of us can't take this (we might have a main job), we accrue holiday pay instead.
These figs are examples only. Plug in any lower or higher rates you like. If you work for ÂŁ20ph (locum day rate), you would earn 12.07% of ÂŁ20 (ÂŁ2.41) for every hour you work. Say the OOH rate is ÂŁ28 - while working those hours you should earn 12.07% of that on top ÂŁ3.38).
There has been a longstanding issue in Scotland where some health boards have only ever paid people holiday pay at the daytime rate even if they're accruing holiday pay at premium rates. This is not in keeping with the law on holiday pay and can result in huge underpayments.
At the rates above there's no huge difference but by comparing different figures you can see that it would be larger. For those who work all of their shifts through the bank, for example people who exclusively pick up ED shifts directly given the better rates this can be huge.
For those doing ED shifts in the West of Scotland, they have potentially been underpaid by 23% overall - A 23% HIDDEN PAYCUT. They've now corrected this but as far as I know have done nothing to seek out people to pay out the millions they likely owe over years of doing this.
I've been successful in highlighting this and claiming back the difference through @BMAScotland but @NHSGGC, @NHSLanarkshire, @NHSaaa need to pay people the millions owed. This could also affect other healthcare staff and other nations and they should contact their unions.
