I lay awake last night wondering why humans don't responded to threats such as climate change, mass extinction, and other environmental, ecological, & humanitarian crises, in the way we've responded to covid.

The massive policy changes, sacrifices, bailouts, etc. that have

come about since covid, prove that - if the threat is huge enough, and we care enough about it - the scale of change and sacrifice people are prepared to accept, across the entire globe, is phenomenal.

Why, I wonder, does humanity not take the other threats so seriously?

Perhaps we expect these other issues will all be 'sorted out' for us? Or don't believe they'll affect us in our life times? Maybe it's just because we can't 'see' them? Whatever the reasons, we will one day wish we'd dealt with these issues, too, as the emergencies they are.
