HELLOO! since ramadan is coming up, and im such a cool muslim woah (joke i swear) here is a thread ab what ramadan is all ab! / gen /safe :D
ramadan happens once a year, and normally lasts around 30 days ( a month) we follow the lunar calendar which is why it starts earlier each year (shifts by around 11 days) this year is starts either april 12 or 13!
its a month for spiritual discipline and it helps us feel grateful for what we have, since many don't have a drop of water, so it lets us feel grateful for our privilege! its really a great thing and makes the soul feel happier (science proves) it clears up mind and makes peace!
we fast from sunrise to sunset and yes NOT EVEN WATER LMAOO (around 16hrs of fasting this year) it's not just about not taking food/drink its also about charity and practicing patience and kindness <3
it means a lot to us when you wish us a "happy ramadan/ramadan mubarak"! it gives a lot of motivation! we don't mind being around people eating/drinking so you don't need to apologize!
no question is a bad question, we love talking about ramadan especially to curious non muslims, and are happy to answer any questions people have! im open to any questions, ramadan related or not :]
we normally wake up right before sunrise! around 2-3 am to have a meal before the sun rises so we don't have a really hard time in the day, its called suhr! (sa- hoor) it doesn’t matter what we eat as long as we know that it wouldn’t make us starve from dawn until sunset.
smoking/ vaping also considers that you have broke the fast!
as one of the five pillars, or duties, of Islam, fasting during the month of Ramadan is mandatory for all healthy adult Muslims, children who have not reached puberty, the elderly, those who are physically or mentally cant fast, pregnant women-
- women on periods, breastfeeding mothers, the sick and travelers are okay to not fast and are accepted.
after the sun sets, muslims break their fast with iftar! a meal which usually and is meant to start with dates and milk, followed by dinner. muslims are permitted to snack at night between those two meals, and hydration is encouraged, especially when ramadan falls during summer.
for the snacks in iftar and suhr, we normally eat high iron and high fiber so we don't lose energy and get sick, fruits and vegetables are encouraged and most likely eaten, nuts are also high in snacks for Muslims, and many liquids to stay hydrated!
muslims should also limit fried foods and sugary sweets, its a cultural tradition in many muslim countries!
after ramadan, muslims celebrate a three-day holiday called Eid-ul-Fitr. After THIS eid , muslims pray the holiday prayer in congregation in the morning, visit loved ones and close ones, and celebrate over food, gifts and activities for children-
- the gifts are most likely to be money, and we get rich😎 (i am sorry for this LMAO) but yea its a fun day!
maybe you could tag some things in the month of ramadan such as nsfw, music, swears/cussing, food and drugs!
the way we know which day is ramadan is by checking the moon! this year it will either be April 12 or 13, the way we will know that is by the crescent moon, if the moon is just about to be crescent, then the next day is ramadan! they check my telescopes, it cannot be seen by eye
if you miss a couple of days/ weeks in ramadan you can make it up on any other day, and ts deeply encouraged to! and its suggested to make it up in winter since days are shorter so it will be much easier :-D
we begin fasting when we hit puberty, kids under the age of 10 can still do it but ofcourse it will be a challenge for them! so what they can do is fast a couple hours, they don't need to fast the whole day until sun set :)
and again, WE ARENT OPPRESSED! its a month for spiritual discipline. It's a reminder for things we should be grateful for, things we tend to take for granted (like food and water). It's a month to build on good habits, to be kind, to be charitable-
- to be happier and have a piece of mind, to be the best versions of ourselves, and once again this isn't by force, its up to u if u want to fast but its deeply encouraged to in islam!
and no felecia, dont do it as a 'trend' or as an 'aesthetic' LMAOO, it kind of mocks us, but! you can do it just to see if it does help become calmer, and no, it doesn't mean you've converted to islam. fasting is a normal diet as well! so uh yea!
if youre willing to, you can ask me questions! and if it becomes too hard but you want to continue, drink water but don't eat food, if you want to break it, break it. don't force your self okay? <3 but yes if you're not a Muslim and want to try it, go ahead! just-
- just dont do it for a 'trend' or as an 'aestehtic' and post " omg guys i just f-f-asted 1 minute a-am i o-opress-opressed now?? UwU b-baka!! OwO🥺🥺" okay? and again, no, it doesn't mean you are Muslims if you fast.
AND TO ANY OF MY MUSLIMS OUT THERE, RAMADAN MUBARAKKKK!
and if you read this all, i love you so much thank you and my dms are always open for any who need to talk, or just to chat! <3 have a good day/ night
