"obese" is a slur. "overweight" is a slur.

i won't call a specific person fat until i know their feelings about it. it's been used as a weapon for ages; i don't want to hurt anyone. but about groups, about politics, and about systemic oppression -- the right word to use is fat.

if you're referring to a group and the word "fat" might hurt people - and they're likely to hear it used - there are more options. you can go with something like "larger people" or "people with bigger bodies."

never use "obese" or "overweight." they have bigotry built right in.
