1/3 Does 1 Cor. 11:29 teach us to “discern” the body & blood of Christ in the sense that we are to recognize “transubstantiation” or the his corporeal presence therein? No, it does not. This is eisegeted into the text by Rome and others. So what does it mean?
2/3 They were partaking in an unworthy manner because they were mistreating members of Christ’s own body in the local congregation. The very ones for whom Christ died, they were proclaiming his death for them, and yet abusing them. Failing to discern his body broken for them.
3/3 The church (body of Christ) was failing to discern its own brothers for whom Christ died...and YET proclaiming his death for the same. We’re called to love the brethren, hence not discerning the body of Christ broken for them by hating them, is grave sin. Examine yourself.
