firstly, i would like to say that making fun of a speech impediment IS considered ableism.
having a speech impediment (like a stutter or lisp) is considered to be an impairment.
many nd people including myself struggle with speech impediments daily.

1: you cannot simply cure a speech impediment. while SOMETIMES you can improve it, it is very unlikely you can fix one unless the person is a toddler, even then it is very 50/50.
2: please do not point out when someone is struggling to talk or if they talk “weirdly”.
3: this one relates back to 2, please do not point out when someone repeats a lot of the same words while talking.
example: someone stammering or repeating common words like “um” or “and”.

4: for the love of god please do not point out or make of someone whenever they have a lot of hitched breaths when speaking. as someone who has this symptom i receive it a lot and it is very upsetting. no one truly cannot help it.
5: do not pressure someone to speak. a lot of the time, people with speech impediments have to take a second to think about what they say before they say it out loud. otherwise they might be a stammering mess.
6: idk if others have this but, personally when i am having very bad stuttering i experience physical tics.
never comment on someone’s physical tics when they are speaking. sometimes this could be them hitting their hand against something or even turning their head to the side.

(cont of 6)
some tics may be more violent than others and usually ware the person out.
7: and last (for now) but not least, just don’t comment on someone’s speech or tics in general! whether they have a speech impediment or not. its just human decency.
