If all you read is DC and Marvel, you don’t like comics, you like superheroes. https://twitter.com/NickPiers/status/1379919513181945871
…as predicted, the knives came out. So lemme expand on this a bit:

What I’m specifically talking about here is how, in the USA, the term “comics” is often synonymous with “superheroes.” I’m sure I’m not blowing your mind in telling you they’re two separate things…
Now, I’m not saying superhero comics are bad — hell, I love ‘em — but I am saying that if that is ALL YOU HAVE EVER BEEN EXPOSED TO then how can you possibly know if you’re a fan of “comics” or a fan of “superheroes?”
Some people out there will branch out a little, and, y’know, they just LOVE superhero comics and nothing else tickles them in the same way. And that’s fine — of course I would consider them comic lovers.

You don’t have to love EVERY genre.
But knowing what’s out there and that there are comics BEYOND Batman is important to appreciating the medium. You can dislike a story and still appreciate the way the story is told.
And that’s what I mean when I say, “you like comics.” Do you like the medium? Are you fascinated by its possibilities? Are you interested in seeing how different artists use it in different ways to tell different stories?

Or do you like superhero stories?
There’s no wrong answer, but they are two VASTLY different things.
I’m muting this now. I feel like I said my piece in the thread and the comments.

People who’re gonna be mad about it are just gonna be mad about it. 🤷‍♂️

But I think the majority of people know what I’m talking about here.
Just remember comics are a medium, not a genre.

Go read comics whatever your preference may be.
