After the Benson auditorium disappointment, I distanced myself from HU, but I couldn’t let go of the article published by the Bison about how Christians should vote this week. (how did y’all publish this btw) (1/8)
This article showed up on my feed, so I went ahead and read it out of curiosity. I’m not sure why I was surprised to read an article about endorsing Tr*mp and how Christians should be one issue voters. (2/8)
It was triggering to say the least, putting me back in an old headspace I’ve now distanced myself from. I didn’t realize the implications of my words and beliefs until I entered the deconstruction phase of my faith. (3/8)
Theology and Christian doctrine stemmed from my parents/church and there was not one belief I studied on my own. It was all regurgitated verses and stories; nothing to critically think about because I’d been told what was CLEAR in the Bible. (4/8)
I didn’t realize the internalized homophobia, racism, and misogyny I held in my faith. The way I condemned people without a second thought or judged every action “because they were not like us” was extremely harmful. (5/8)
I encourage those who agreed with this article to look around at who supported and shared it, because I guarantee all of you look the same. The verses you weaponize against the oppressed are seen. Your words cut deep to communities you reject and shame. (6/8)
To be hated and know “you’re probably on the right track” is not something to be proud of. Using the Bible to fulfill your westernized, white, American culture will not last. (7/8)
The thing that will remain is the story of Jesus: a Brown, homeless, refugee Jew who liberated those under scrutiny by Pharisees and the law. (8/8)
