#PayUpHollywood: Today, after we read @THR article that outed Scott Rudin’s long reign of horrific physical, mental and emotional abuse of assistants, we waited to see which studios would publicly denounce this behavior and cut ties with Rudin. As of 1pm today, 0 have. (1/?) https://twitter.com/TatianaSiegel27/status/1379824635487879176
To say this is disheartening is an understatement. To say it is expected is an overstatement. #AssistantsArePeople. We have normalized monsters in this industry to the point that, when they are outed, we shrug and say “He’s not the only one.” This is FUCKED. (2/?)
It is FUCKED that we look upon this as a normal part of the industry. Every single one of us deserves better than that - especially support staff. #AssistantsArePeople.

Hollywood has a dehumanization problem with assistants. It is not an issue limited to Scott Rudin. (3/?)
We all have stories. Many of us have emotional scars, some physical. Assistants are PEOPLE. To look the other way on horrific abuse and law-breaking so that your company can reap financial gain makes you and your studio COMPLICIT.

Say it again. Studios. Are. Complicit. (4/?)
We’re calling on studios and employers to commit to third-party reporting systems and outside, independent HR investigations. We can’t keep pretending that in-house HR offices are there to protect the employees. They protect the company. (5/?)
#PayUpHollywood has seen too often that places like WB and CBS commit to dismantling workplace abuse and then are REPEATEDLY outed for their abject HR failures.

We've ALL seen this. It keeps happening. It does not stop. (6/?)
We’re often chastised for promoting doom and gloom. But our mission is to out abusive bosses and practices, which has been normalized as “part of the job” for far too long. Our mission is to NORMALIZE the view that #AssistantArePeople. Because it's NOT. (7/?)
To assistants, support staff, and good people who want to pass along resources to those who need them, please bookmark the California Employment Lawyers Association page ( http://CELA.org ). If you are an employee who has been subjected to abuse like this... (8/?)
(which, by the way, is a violation of the LAW) and you do not trust your company’s HR (or don’t have one), reach out to CELA. If you need an introduction, you can email us at [email protected] and we will make one. (9/?)
If you are an ally looking to help, reach out to the support staff you know. Amplify their voices or at least their needs. Reach out to other allies and discuss how you can pressure employers into using third party reporting and committing to outside HR investigation. (10/?)
(side note: If you're an assistant in a union, REACH OUT TO YOUR SHOP STEWARD FOR HELP.) (11/?)
Scott Rudin’s outing is one step towards holding the monsters accountable. But if he, and other people in power like him, are allowed to escape punishment, this article was just a waste of words.

#AssistantsArePeople. Stop the monsters. (12/12)
