Apple's @tim_cook told @karaswisher yesterday that casting ballots on smart phones seems like a good idea. It's not. https://www.businessinsider.com/apple-ceo-tim-cook-on-voting-technology-iphones-smartphones-2021-4
When you bank online, both you and the bank know how much $ should be in your account, and you both check to make sure nothing funny happens via hack or fraud or otherwise. With a secret ballot cast online, by definition, no one does that checking.
We're all for thinking of creative ways to expand access to the franchise, but at a moment that far too many Americans believe the lie that large-scale election fraud happens in the U.S., internet voting is exactly the wrong way to go.
Our own @rachelegoodman1 wrote about why it's not the right move with @jhalderm. https://slate.com/technology/2020/01/internet-voting-could-destroy-our-elections.html
