1/13 For all those who think Imran Khan misspoke or simply needs to be educated on the subject of rape and gender inequality, let me remind you that many have tried to educate him and that he has access to the best researchers, policy makers and psychologists in the world.
2/13 The problem is that he refuses to intellectually engage with his critics, he constantly panders to his right-wing base in Pakistan for power and he is in fact deeply misogynistic and dim. Like many wealthy Pakistani men, he also knows how to present himself to white people.
3/13 He speaks differently when talking to white people. An example of this can be seen in this incredible documentary produced by @realstoriesdocs about rampant paedophilia and how it's linked to gender inequality in Pakistan.
4/13 The documentary filmmakers spoke to young boys, paedophiles, lawyers and social workers back in 2013-2014 I believe, and one of the most revealing interviews was with a bus conductor named Ejaz.
5/13 When asked about women and marriage, Ejaz had this to say:
6/13 When asked how he justified raping a dozen boys when he claimed Islam was so important for himself and he wanted a wife who read the Qur'an and prayed frequently, Ejaz responded with this:
The doc. notes link between gender inequality and child abuse. They quote a 2014 WHO report that places gender inequality at top of a list of factors leading to high rates of child abuse and a WEF report that rates Pakistan as the 2nd worst for equal opportunities for women. 7/13
All of this information was presented by the documentary makers to @ImranKhanPTI and he said he was embarrassed, that his party had only been in power for 7 months, but he would establish a task force to tackle this issue. 8/13
So what happened after that? Well, Imran Khan became obsessed with the 2013 election and refused to accept the results of course. The KPK government appointed Reham Khan as an "ambassador for street children in 2015 and stripped her of this title after their divorce. 9/13
when his gov. gave a "Pride of Performance" award to a man accused of harassment by multiple women, when he aligned himself with a rapist like Farooq Bandiyal, when he voted against the Protection of Women's Rights Bill, when he voted against the Domestic Violence bill, 11/13
And most recently when blamed women for not protecting themselves from rapists. So I ask you all, why is anyone surprised when he has shown us again and again how much he loves power and how much he hates women, time and time again? 12/13
And why is @Jemima_Khan surprised? 13/13
